If you've managed to run the battery dead in your Jeep Wrangler JL already (like we have), you may have discovered a little nuisance: You can't shift the automatic transmission shifter out of Park if the battery is dead. This is handy if the Jeep isn't parked in the perfect position to hook up jumper cables or a jump box.
Luckily, Jeep built in a way to manually release the transmission from Park. But very, very few people know about it. In this week's JL Mini Tech video, resident Dynatrac engineer and Jeep JL expert, Tony Carvallo, shows you how to open a secret access door in the console and pull a release strap that will let shift the transmission out of Park even if the battery is dead.
