HighwayTrout's build

That’s kind of a bummer that it doesn’t go to the edge. I get a lot of hits right at it and have one now on our 392. Fortunately, it’s not growing.

Yes it is a bummer. I get it though, being an at home install thing. My gladiator had a couple edge strikes like that too. And only the ones in the center cracked also. Hope yours stays contained!!

If this doesn’t work or last a year or more. I’ll end up getting a tint shop to install the actual film they cut to the exact size on my next windshield.

Not gonna lie, I’m still tempted to do this.

Did you buy this direct from the vendor or through a retailer? What’s this about cutting film to actual size? Do they have an option of buying different sheets.

I bought direct from the Racing Optics website.

As far as cutting to fit. Most tint shops offer some type of protection offerings and wraps along with standard tint jobs. Tons of different options going that route but it is very expensive and it’s a one and done deal. Once it’s scratched you’ll need to replace it rather than peeling one layer at a time like the Racing Optics. All depends what you want out of it and how much you want to spend.

Ah gotcha. I thought racing optics had a custom option.

I have mixed emotions. It’s awesome that it’s mostly 4 lane divided highway now and should be a lot safer. Or at least lessen the likelihood of going head on with another car. But part of me is bummed that the already dying desolate towns along the way are now bypassed and for sure will seal their fate.
Yeah I hear you there. I was sad to see the Ranch house in Olancha close a few years back. They obviously were against the new road and had the map posted about it about 10-15 years ago. They felt it would put them out of business but that happened before the new hwy was built. Now if they can only add additional lanes from Adelanto to Kramer Junction.

Just passed through there 2 weeks ago. I love the Eastern Sierras. I want to plan a camping trip to lone pine campground like when I was a kid. Isn't the new section of 395 nice?
My memory of 395 was one strip of asphalt with dashed lines down the middle, and hardly any traffic. I liked it a lot.

It sounds like things have changed a lot since then.

So every year a group of coworkers and I do some type of death march in the mountains. This year (and last year) we signed up with the John Wayne Cancer Foundation to “run” a half marathon in the Alabama Hills. Really can’t get much better for a race venue. Great views and easy single track with a bit of dirt road miles it’s an awesome event. The wind beat our asses tho!

Unfortunately the mammoth ski crowd ruined it. More and more the eastern sierras are being overtaken by city assholes. I had a Tesla flashing highbeams at me to move out of its way. And otherwise being rude at every interaction we noticed with local wait staff or hotel staff. Total bummer
