Finally my own build, dubbed JK Rex

How's it going everyone? I've been stalking these forums for last few years following everyone's sick builds and ideas. Now I was finally able to get my hands on a 2010 JKU Sahara that was traded in to my dealership.

So here she is. I didn't technically own her at this point but did throw a dealer plate on it and took it home.

Thanks Spud. The first thing I did was pick up a set of rubicon rails and replaced the running boards. I also removed the sahara stickers and drilled the drain holes in the mirrors.

So for the first phase of my build I'm thinking the following any recomendations would be awesome.

Black out rims
Evo 1/4 pounder with stinger or Poison Spyder?
Evo leveling kit
1.5 inch wheel spacers
Windshield minted lights(led? Or KC 6icnh?)
Truck lites or the KC head lights?
Cold Air intake
Maybe exhaust

Going to wait for tires till Jan or February since these are still fairly good

I would say Trucklights are better I just got mine in the mail yesterday, Wrangler lights are 7". I have the BFH w/Trail Stinger from Poison Spyder because it is lighter(over 50% i think) and love that. I would skip the exhaust and intake and go for a budget boost and tires so you can get further on the trails. Looks like you are off to a good start!

You don't NEED it.. But they will stop the flicker that some people see. It's most common when close behind a vehicle at a stop light or pulled up against a wall.

So this weekend I was able to pick up some safari mirrors from a local jeeper. He as selling them because he hated the fact that you needed a wrench to put them on and take them off. So I picked up some wing nuts that work perfectly. 1438003255388.jpg

He actually came by and helped me pop the doors off since it was the first time in 5 years that the doors were removed so they were a bit stubborn. Sadly I forgot to take pics.

Last night's project was the DIY mesh guard. I knew I wanted one so I took a shot at making one. Took about 30 cable loops and a ton of zip ties I was able to get them on there. Used metal gutter guard for the guard it's self.

Tonight's project is making a cart for these heavy a** doors. Since I don't have a garage to store them in

Looking good man! Here's an idea for a door cart that I did with a furniture dolly and pvc. ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1438004462.764865.jpg
It will even hold your top, windows and door surrounds ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1438004528.062264.jpg

Edit: I just noticed you're running a hard top.

Thanks brother and that's exactly what I'm building haha. Leave for home Depot after work

As for my soft top the customer that traded my jeep in just dropped it off today! I am stoked.

Next Week's project is rear truck lid that locks when the tail gate is closed.

welcome to wayalife from a fellow NY "Fresh Catch"

That's man! I'm just waiting on a meet up to pop up lol.

Here was last night's project. Feel like it needs more supports but from what I've read and seen this is how a lot of guys build it

Yesterday I was able to pull off the hardtop and throw on the factory soft top. Man is this thing a pain. It also had the boot too which is a pain but does keep it clean. 1438192281331.jpg

For a brief min she was naked as well 1438192308035.jpg

I also pulled off the rear bumper and painted. My tow hook while I waited for my help for taking the hard top off. 1438192345078.jpg

Doesn't look to bad with jusy the soft top. Since summers almost over I'm going to wait till next year to get my trek top. 1438192396833.jpg

Next up is head lights and a rear storage lid diy to lock up the back when the tail gate is closed.

It's been a long time since I updated my build thread, so I thought I'd add to it here.

She has been dubbed JK Rex now, son loves dinos and it was either Rex or Raptor, it's not a Ford so Rex it is lol

After that, it was tinting the windows, throwing on the Trektop NX and the evo leveling kit.

The trektop I lucked out on when a customer traded in his Jeep with the hard top and dropped off the trek later on. Boss said it was cool to tear off mine and swap it with the NX. So it was a deal.

Next up was getting rid of the stock bumper. I was looking at everything and anything. So many choices. As much as I wanted the the Evo 1/4 pounder with the stinger. I wanted something that was full width of the grill. So I went with the PSC Brawler lite.

Since it was bare steel, I prepped it by cleaning the whole thing with brake cleaner, lightly sanded, cleaned it again and tack clothed. Then primed and a few coats of Rustoleum bedliner. Sadly no pics of the process but here it is.

It also happened to be in October, so my wanna be skeletor was sitting front and center

After a getting pretty damn stuck it was time to pick up a winch. So I ordered the smitty synthetic winch. I also was able to repaint my grill inserts and toss in my truck lites from NR4X4.
