Any opinions on the new Smittybilt X2O winch

So that it isn't missed, what you with your money and Jeep is really no concern of mine. If any of you are taking anything I might have to say as some kind of insult, you really need to examine within yourself why that might be. Again, I am only here to offer my opinion and based on my experiences - it is my sincere hope to help others NOT make the same mistakes that I've made in the past and only recommend the products that I do because I have found them to be the best. You of course can choose take what I say or leave it as certainly, none of it is personal.

I wasn't belittling him when I wrote that and I'll be careful with my words so I don't offend you either.

Your minor issue was the broken connector, right? I'll assume you didn't desperately need THAT to work when it failed... Apparently the only inconvenience was having to contact SMittybilt and have another one sent... I guess it's s good thing that you had a few days to wait it out. You're lucky it didn't break when you actually needed it to.

You should amend your earlier statement to read " all of us said that our winches work great..WHEN they work..." I think that would be more accurate.

Again, I'm certainly not trying to ruffle feathers and I understand wheeling on a budget. I did it for a long time and I still do. However, the OP did also pick up a pretty pricey bumper and stinger as well. The budget wasn't too terribly thin..

I'm sorry I missed your post or I would have commented on it earlier. Thanks for correcting my inaccuracy. I'll be more careful also. And thanks for understanding the whole budget thing. I wasn't necessarily speaking for the OP but more myself.

Its unfortunate that you pay 4-$500 for something that may work. Personally to me, no matter what the price, i expect a product to work as advertised otherwise whats the point. I bought the x20 because I thought I couldnt afford a Warn and learned the hard way. It had 3 different failures the first and only time I used it. Thankfully for me it was within 30 days and I returned it, saved for a couple more months and bought the zeon I originally wanted. Im not saying all smittys are bad because I have a buddy who has an older one thats been up to the task every time he needed it. But based on my personal experience, I would never buy another or suggest one to anyone. Just my .02

Fucking A......that's what this site IMO boils down to. I've been that guy who made that mistake. I'm just great full not to become that guy again with my wife's new mall crawler.

:cheesy: Sorry, didn't know you had put me up on some kind of pedestal.

Don't know why that would make a difference but, okay. Seems to me you could have done the same thing for a quality winch instead of paying full price for a China winch but hey, that's just me.

That being the case, I don't know why you would have bothered to spend upwards of $600 on something you don't really need.

A "security blanket" is only as good as it's ability to perform when you really need it. Kind of like a parachute - ain't worth a thing if it doesn't open up and bring you safely back to earth.

:cheesy: No sweat off my back. I don't have to rely on your "security blanket"

No, not all WARN's are made in the USA. Their VR series are made in China and I would NOT recommend them.

It is funny! Somehow, if a guy like me posts up an opinion that differs from yours, it's somehow a pissing or dick measuring contest. :naw:

In spite of what your bruised ego seems to think, I really couldn't care less what winch you chose to run. My only purpose for posting up on a thread like this is to help others who are currently shopping for a winch to hear an opposing opinion as to why they SHOULD NOT buy a Chinese made winch and back it up with my personal experience. Clearly, your only purpose for posting up on a thread like this is to reaffirm the choices that you've made regarding things you've spent your hard earned money on. And really, I get it - nobody likes to think they made a mistake.

LOL!! Oh yeah, everyone chimed to say "buy it" and then others chimed in to say "don't buy it" and then the butthurt chimed in to try and discount the later. Yup, forum nature

I'm not putting you on a pedestal. I was just being a little respectful to the creator of this forum.
Not sure why you think I have a bruised ego either? Just giving my .02 like everyone else. I'm not reaffirming anything. Read my first couple of post. I gave pros and cons on the winch and then later stated Warn is better.
Also, your parachute analogy is ridiculous. If my winch fails I'm stuck. If my parachute fails I'm dead! No comparison. :cheesy:
The dick measuring thing was a joke. Get to know me already.

:cheesy: Funny, a guy like you could never disappoint me but I suppose that's because you haven't given me any reason to give you any respect. Hell, I don't even know you from Adam

Could have fooled me but hey, I'm just calling it like I saw it. If you say that I was wrong, I guess I'll have to take your word for it. :yup:

Oh, I got that. I just find it funny that you would purposefully choose to buy something that you yourself admit is a substandard product and then try to convince others that they should consider it too. Me, I've bought plenty of substandard products over the last 20+ years and would never recommend them even if someone were on a budget. But then, that's just me.

Also, your parachute analogy is ridiculous. If my winch fails I'm stuck. If my parachute fails I'm dead! No comparison. :cheesy:

LOL!! Perhaps but, you're the one who called your Chinese winch a "security blanket" as in, it's something you hope to rely on when you really need it most. A parachute would be that too and that's all I was saying. I suppose my perspective comes from being on obstacles where if my winch failed, I could get seriously hurt or worse - my bad.

The dick measuring thing was a joke. Get to know me already.

Oh, right - another "joke". Sorry, I guess I need to get to know you already

Not going to read the whole thing, but I read enough to say this: it says it right there in the title "any opinions."

Quality is different than style. If you want to compare a Camry, Altima, accord, let opinions flow. Don't sit and compare those to a Porsche.

That's the same as this stupid winch agruement that seems to always come up. CLEARLY warn USA models are hands down better. How many Engo or Shitty winches do you see on race rigs.....yeah, none.

If you want a cheap winch, close your eyes and pick one from the catalog. They are all made in the same factory with different skins or logo plates. Then hope yours works. And if it does, it still doesn't mean it is "as good as" or "a good buy for the money" when compared to better products.

For what it's worth, I don't have a winch yet (ala clem319). I try to listen to my spotter, pick good lines and wheel with folks who GO WARN!! I'll get a winch some day and it will likely be the Warn Zeon or a CTI.

Nicely put. Thanks! I agree, warn will have a sale in October...

First upgrade I bought for my Jeep:

1: Trucklite since I needed better illumination at night driving.

2: Warn Power Plant 9.5

the rest of the upgrade followed. I went for safety and dependability first.

"Boss people around" huh. Telling someone to buy American and calling them a "jackass"... What would you call that good Sir? Those are your words exactly and I quoted it so you don't get confused again... Feel free to explain yourself.

I have no voice in this fight...my first winch has been warn and I have no complaints so far but haven't tried others to compare but my warn is reliable.
