My friend got a 99 tj he just picked up a factory grille off ebay and we are trying to fiquier out whats up with the latch being on the grille look at photos is from newer yr tj or older?

Definitely older. I've never seen a TJ with a latch on the hood.

My tj has a grille just like that. My friends 02 also has the latch on the grille.
