Moab EJS 2024

I finished the next segment of my journey. I chose to drive from Carson City across on I-80 to the Salt Lake area. It’s been a really long time since I’ve taken I-80 across and since we were on Hwy-50 this summer it made sense.

Every mountain was covered with snow. With the wide valleys of sagebrush and snow covered mountains it made for a really cool contrast.

The entire run across I-80 there was a storm to my north. I managed to out run it for a while. The speed limit is 80 mph for most of the way and the LT1 was able to keep the Jeep at a steady 80 with no problem. I averaged about 15 mpg. That’s about 2-3 mpg more than the V6 could have done. The LT1 down shifted to 9th gear on the inclines and on a couple of the steeper grades it dropped into 8th. No loss of momentum and the maximum engine temperature I saw was 215 on the steepest climb. Most of the time the temp was in the 205-210 range.

It is interesting how different Nevada is from Utah considering they are located next to each other. When I stopped for fuel in Nevada you had the ability to buy mini-liquor bottles along with your candy bars and breath mints at checked out. In Utah there is no liquor in the mini-mart and beer is low octane. It’s like the Good Kid (Utah) and his Wicked Brother (Nevada). Definitely one of the many things that makes America great, you can choose Utah or you can choose Nevada!

The rain finally caught up with me as I arrived in Wendover. It rained pretty hard and had obviously been raining for a while as the areas off of the road were super soggy. If you pulled too far off the road you were going to be there a while!

Yeah, the window crack is getting bigger! It happened last year driving out to EJS. Moab,
the Rubicon, and this trip hasn’t helped it any. I’ll ride it out until my OCD can no longer take it. 😜

Today I drove from Spanish Forks to Moab. I decided to cut through the mountains on Hwy-6. The route goes up over Soldier Summit which is around 7,000 foot elevation and due to the storm there was a snow and freezing rain mix. The fog and clouds were heavy at times.
