Synergy Flip Kit installation

Stupid question. Did you use the step bit for the knuckle on the EVO flip kit? I thought the EVO flip kit came with a stock drag link.

Yes it does, but remember you're flipping it to the top so the knuckle has to have the opposite taper now.

This is the only video that I could find that was even close to what I was looking for except it did not show the tapered reamer!!! :naw:

Thats the video i used when i installed mine this past weekend but its a fairly easy install. I ended up using the 13/16 drill bit that they recommended but when i went to slide the adapter in the hole it was way to tight and i cant get the ball joint to seat right. So im going to order another adapter and try it with the 7/8 drill bit, i read somewhere else that its better to use the 7/8 drill bit

What I should have done was bought the insert with the flip kit and trying just tapering the hole first. If I have to much trouble, drill out the hole and use the insert.

Might I make another suggestion? If you do not have the tapered reamer, which I'm guessing you don't, order a flip kit insert from Synergy Manufacturing in whichever size you prefer- either 13/16 or 7/8. Drill the corresponding hole with a cobalt drill bit and cutting oil and go slow and straight. Drop the insert into the hole you just drilled, insert your tie rod end and tighten to 63lb/ft and you are all set. And you have no worries, can't imagine why anyone would use a unibit for any reason in this application as you cannot possibly duplicate the 1.5" per foot taper that the appropriate tapered reamer produces and the tie rod end requires.

Thank you for your suggestion nbruno. I personally do not have a tapered reamer, however I do have two friends that do have the 1 ton tapered reamer as mentioned in page 2 of this thread.

JK- yet again, those are not the proper tools to use to achieve the correct taper. If the posted picture of the gold taper bit is what you are referring to. reamer.jpg This is the correct tool to use.

Also, when you use the 13/16 insert you are not opening the original hole any wider than the bottom already is, you're just removing the taper from the hole.

I did buy the sleeve this morning for just in case matters. I'm not using those exact tapered reamers but I am using GMC style tapered reamer.

I will double check to make sure it does match this reamer.

I just got the drag link in today and I havent looked at the tapered reamers I plan to use. I might change my mind once I take everything apart and find to drill out the hole. :hmm:
