HIGHLIGHTS from the 2024 WAYALIFE Whiskey Wanderlust

For those of you who haven't seen them already, there are TONS of great pics that have been posted by everyone who attended the 2024 WAYALIFE Whiskey Wanderlust and you can see them all starting from about here:

WAYALIFE Whiskey Wanderlust

Hey, I should note that the weather is going to be all over the place on this trip. From mild and warm to pretty damn chilly so please pack accordingly.

With that said, I decided to start this post to highlight all that we did, in a more chronological order and with captions to help detail all the fun we had. I hope you enjoy what you're about to see

For this trip, we decided to take JAWS, our 2020 Jeep Gladiator that's completely EVO'd out and running 42s.

As luck would have it, our good friends Doug, Mike and Robyn were able to meet up with us in Carson City and caravan with us down to our starting point.

Even though we were on the threshold of April, the start of our drive reminded us just how serious global warming really is.

Fortunately, the white stuff let up the further south we went but it was still cold and cloudy all day.

Eating like kings along the way.

Being the long drive that it was, we made stops along the way to stretch and let Ripley burn off some steam and they were always fun in spite of the cold.

The closer we got to our destination, the more the wintery mix turned to just rain and here you can see just a hint of a rainbow we saw.

And brilliant yellow wildflowers highlighting the landscape.

The following morning, everyone met at the Dam House and Mike used the opportunity to make some adjustments to his Jeep.

Of course, it was nice to now have Moochie with us as well!

Ripley all loaded up and asking when we're gonna get to play.

Either they would do a great job of dust control or we'll be seeing a lot of mud on this trip. On our way down to the starting point in Primm and with big rains falling all around it.

Here we are - ground zero!

While Steph was checking in, we caught up with our good friend Tony!

Time for our favorite mixologist to whip up some vodka tonics!

CHEERS!

And just like that, Jason was in the house!

Here's all of us reminding all of you that YOU should be here too

With Moochie at the helm, that can mean only one thing - time for some whiskey!

And just in time too as Bob, Et and Michelle were now here with us as well - CHEERS!

And now that Clay and Tracie were with us too, you know we had to do another - CHEERS!

The perfect hat for the occasions right here.

As you can see here, everyone was having a terrible time.

Although it wasn't an official stop on the Whiskey Wanderlust or at least, not on this one this time around, we were close enough to the Pioneer to make it our dinner destination for the day - CHEERS!

DAY 1
GOOD MORNING from the first official day of the 2024 WAYALIFE Whiskey Wanderlust!

Time to soften up our ride a bit for the very long drive ahead of us.

As luck would have it, our off road fun would start at the back of the parking lot.

And we're off!

Making a stop at a long forgotten rest area along the old traction road.

On the move again!

Here we are at our next stop out in the middle of a dry lake and to look for selenite.

After our fun looking for what looks like chunks of glass in the sand, we made our way to our first Whiskey stop for the day - the Idle Spurs Saloon.

CHEERS!

And, as recommended by our bartender, this is the first of 3 'mystery shots' that they were serving up - CHEERS!

As you can clearly see, nobody was having a good time here.

A BIG THANKS to Mike for buying me a bottle of the local whiskey!

Nothing but trouble sitting outside these doors.

And... that's about when the first shots were fired!

After tending to the wounded amongst us, we got back in our rigs and headed out to our next destination.

Unfortunately, about half way there, we had to make an unscheduled stop to fix a flat on Bob's Bronco.

On the move again!

And here we are for our fine dining on this lovely evening - STEAKS and BEERS!

If there was any question as to what kind of establishment this is...

CHEERS!

YUM!!

And last but not least, a BIG CHEERS to an awesome day out on the trail with good friends and great times!

DAY 2
Good morning from the Longstreet Hotel & Casino!

Driving through the night to get here, none of us had any idea that the area was filled with beautiful desert daises everywhere!

Back on the trail, we couldn't get a mile down it before we had to stop and bask in the yellow glow of the flowers.

Of course, the reason why there were so many flowers is because this was and still is a good rain year and, that means a lot of water everywhere or worse, mud!

But, it is still the desert and so the messy stuff was the exception and not the rule.

And then we came across this one small hill that we just had to drive up.

On the move again, we worked our way up and over the mountains to the west.

And as luck would have it, we did come across a few rocks to flex on.

And here we are at our lunch stop for the day!

On our way down the mountain, we passed through Echo Canyon and made a stop at the Eye of the Needle.

Before leaving, I came across this fella that looked big enough to eat LOL

Once in on the valley floor, we made our way over to Badwater Basin and as luck would have it, enough water was still there to call it Lake Manley once again.

Being such a rare occurrence, you know we just had to walk out in it.

On our way to our saloon for the day, we made a stop over at Furnace Creek to see Old Dinah, a traction engine that would have pulled ore across some of the roads we traveled on back on Day 1.

And, here we are imbibing at the Badwater Saloon - CHEERS!

And finally, at our home for the night and celebrating yet another awesome day out on the trail - CHEERS!

And, can I get another CHEERS for round 2!

And - why not make 3! CHEERS!

DAY 3
Our 3rd Official Day on the WAYALIFE Whisky Wanderlust started with a trip out to Rhyolite and of course, it's hard to visit this ghost town without a quick stop and silliness over at the Goldwell Open Air Museum.

Of the many attractions in Rhyolite, the Tom Kelly bottle house is probably the most famous.

Downtown Rhyolite has seen some better days.

Fortunately for us, our day on the trail started from the north end of town and soon we were on our way to our first whiskey stop!

After a long trek across a vast empty stretch of Nevada desert, we decided to take break at an old whistle stop along an abandoned length of railroad.

And... that's when the shenanigans started up again LOL

After burying our dead, we worked our way down into the middle of the nearby dry lake and took a moment to pose for a few group shots.

Back on the trail, we worked our way up and over another mountain range until we found ourselves in the wonderful living ghost town of Goldpoint.

CHEERS!!

Honestly - I didn't do it!!

After a ton of fun and loads of whiskey and then taking time to sober out, we made our way to our home for the night - the Mizpah!

Of course, being that this place is haunted, devices like this can be found at the front desk.

To a fun filled day and night that's just getting started - CHEERS!

And what would a trip like be without a proper nightcap in our suite!

DAY 4
Our 4th and for all intents and purposes, last day of this epic fun filled Whiskey Wanderlust, started off with a beautiful sunrise but with a cold wintery wind in the air.

Working our way across the desert, the cold winter air made it tough to get out and do much of anything but we tried anyway.

Here you can see an old mill that we stopped to check out along the way.

This poor guy was trying his best to warm up in the sun.

Pushing on and up and over yet another mountain range.

And, we got to check out some cool old mines along the way.

Here's a shot looking our across the valley from the summit of this trail.

On the other side, we stopped at yet another old ghost town.

Freezing our butts off, we decided to head down the mountain and make our way to our next whiskey stop.

Down in the valley, the winds were howling but somehow, we were still able to push our bricks in the wind and come to this place, the Little A-Le-INN.

CHEERS!

And, being that were so close to Area-51, we decided to pay them a visit.

Or at least, until they sounded off the alarm and we went scampering back into our Jeeps and took off LOL

Having escaped capture and probing, we made a few more stops including one to the Mail Box.

And the old Alien Research Center

And all before arriving at our final home for the trip - the Overland Hotel & Saloon.

After we checked in, Tony went to work on serving up some vodka tonics!

CHEERS everyone!

Time for some grub and you know... that other stuff we've been drinking this whole trip.

Even though the crowd dwindled, the rest of us kept the party going - CHEERS!

THE END OF THE ROAD
Unfortunately, about half our group had to head home from the Overland and early in the morning. But, for those who would join Cindy and I out to Vegas, we first made a stop over at Boot Hill - an very cool cemetery dedicated to the first men to be killed and buried in this town.

What I love about this place is that of the headstones remaining, most still have engravings that highlight when they died and in some cases, how or why.

This one is my favorite as it says he was shot over a dispute of a dog.

Our next stop was over to the Million Dollar Court House but unfortunately, it wasn't opened.

On our way down to Vegas, we did make an unscheduled stop at a place Cindy and I have been meaning to check out for some time now and it was to Ryan Henge which is a replica of the real Stone Henge.

Of course, what we didn't expect to find is that there was so much more to see here including animals, old trains and all kinds of neat stuff.

This building was especially cool in that it had an old stamp mill that looked like it still worked.

But, I have to say that one of the newest additions to this place was this little church.

Especially being that the stained glass windows were made out of old mid century modern ashtrays.

The ceiling mural was pretty impressive too.

Our final stop for this Whiskey Wanderlust was to the historic Atomic Liquors.
