You are correct, that seems to be how things are working. No offense to you but may I ask why you want just this? It seems like the JK's hinges are pretty sturdy. They have held my 35" Trail Grappler since last July alright.

After reading more, it looks like I'm just going to go with some Daystar isolators and see how they work out

Yeah not trying to sway your choice but thats all i run, for now. However the terraflex hinge has provisions to hold accessories....my tailgate not so much.

I have personally run a 35" falken and now a 35" nitto for the last 3 years with extended bumpstops and have not had any issues. Both of these tires are on the heavier side also.
