Why Jeep May Never be Great Again

For those of you who think that Jeep will put a 392 in something like a Gladiator or at the very least, soften up on all the EV nonsense they've been pushing so hard on, think again. In spite of the rollbacks on strict California emission rules that Trump and lawmakers signed into law, Stellantis will still be responsible for meeting the original EV rules. Why you might ask? Well, because in a stupid move that was made to save themselves...

"Stellantis signed a 2024 settlement deal with the California Air Resources Board (CARB), locking itself into future state EV rules regardless of what happens at the federal level. The agreement was made under the leadership of former CEO Carlos Tavares to avoid lengthy lawsuits and gain short-term relief from previous emissions violations. But in exchange, Stellantis promised to hit California’s zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) sales targets through the 2030 model year — even if the rules are overturned elsewhere."

Needless to say, Stellantis will still be legally obligated to make 35% of their new vehicles sold in California, 100% emission free by 2026, 43% by 2027 and almost 70% by 2030. And again, this in spite of the fact that California's Advanced Clean Cars II rule was officially blocked. And to be clear, this is ONLY for Stellantis as all the other automakers were smart and struck deals with California years ago. As in, they can now benefit from the new rule change.

You can read all about it here:

I have to say, I am truly saddened by the fact that in my lifetime, I may never want to buy another new Jeep :(

So they pretty much signed their own death certificate. They won’t sale Jeeps while other makers will be offering what the people want. Definitely sad to see.

That is definitely a bummer, like many companies, so much invested on a bullshit law and now they are stuck, looks like l have to keep the jeep I have after all 😂.

Congress should revoke California's permission to implement stricter emission standards then the federal ones. Currently, the there is an exemption for CA to create stricter rules.

Revoking this exemption would negate any CARB standards.

Unfortunately Colorado has or will be requiring CARB standards on new vehicles.

Why would shareholders allow this to happen? Tesla can barely turn a profit with almost 50% of the US market. People with millions to invest in companies can't be this stupid, it's literally basic economics. This EV shit is being propped up by insider trading and government corruption.

I don't see any reason that Stelantis can't just sell EV-only (or hydrogen if they have it) models in California while continuing to sell gas models in the rest of the world. California is big but not that big.

they get their money plus a hella lot more from the government; in this case, they fucked themselve by gambling that democrats would complete the "green" transition likely had assurances they would win this presidency.

Edit - California has way too much power over this type bullshit that affects the rest of the USA - they can't fix their own state

This is America and it was established to allow states to have rights.

Because shareholders wanted it to happen. They were all sold on the religion of "saving the planet" just like all the other woke shit that they bought into.

Right, because there wouldn't be any cost penalties in tooling to have 2 different sets of vehicles made.

Agree, but California is trampling other states rights to have cheaper products.

CARB is overstepping the science with political goals and ambitions. If it only affected California, fine, but all new cars sold in every state comply with CARB, adding significant extra costs for no benefit.

State are not to have interstate regulatory powers... so end CARB now and save fas powered vehicles and consumer choice.

Actually, THEY aren't. Back in the day, auto makers did make what was referred to as 48 State Legal products and then offered a California specific version as typically, the later would just have CARB compliant components. In fact, this made it impossible for people to buy out of state and it made it difficult for people not from California to move there and register the vehicles without making changes to their vehicle. Over the years, automakers chose to just made everything CARB compliant to save money and make things easier.
