Well Eddie you were right

Just so you and others know in the future, GAP is equal to $$$ for auto finance companies. It's highly used in the non/sub-prime auto finance industry. Staying away from GAP is like staying away from PMI in the home finance world.

Yea I know, but I had them swap out my bumpers so I can post them as brand new and sell them lol and now I got a replaced winch. Approaching the total I paid for it slowly.

I'm a warn fan boy and glad I used all the advise I found here before purchase. Purchased my warn powerplant hd October 2013. Went to my father in laws ranch in Mexico 6 weeks later. Several local ranchers were there to help rebuild a creek and bridge that had washout out. Tractor dies in the creek and I volunteered my jeep to recover to old piece of crap. Damm was I nervous and scared. The only thing I had done to the winch was use the compressor several times and un spool the wire rope. All I could here is everyone talking about that I spent 2k on something called a winch and it was not going to work and I was going to "break" el jeep. Warn pulled that rusted green thing out. After that they came over and almost hugged me and gave me a beer. After the tractor fired up, they loaded it and the trailer was flat. They hooked up some kind of air compressor to a spark plug and tired to fill the tire. Warn filled the tire too. BUY A WARN AND BE DONE!

Once I'm done with my other planned purchases I will buy a warn. Until then let's hope the new model holds up

Just a couple of thoughts......
Don't you guys consider an 8000lb winch to be a little marginal for pulling a JKU out of a bog?
Synthetic rope - you have to careful to watch rubbing wear/tear if you pull over a rough edge (think a rock ledge) - this may cause the rope to later break under load at the damaged point.
Another thing with synthetic is leaving it uncovered and spooled on the winch .... UV degradation to the rope is a real issue.....that sun faded looking rope is not going to yield it's full safe working load.

I run a 9500lb on my JK, and if I had a JKU I'd probably have gone the 11,000lb version (only like $50 more). I also run a vinyl slip over cover that protects the rope from UV, and I run a slide on woven protector over the rope that can be slid down to any point where the rope has to pass over something that may damage it.

As to Warn winches.....pretty popular with the competition guys, but among the general offroad touring types, they have a bit of a negative reputation in Australia because of their refusal to warranty a winch thats gotten wet.....yep, no warranty if it fails and they find water in it. Well, that plus the price of the things in Australia....they're like 4 times the price of a reputable "other" brand winch....ouch.
