Wealth distribution in America...

MTG

Caught the Bug
For your consideration....

Like wayoflife said in another thread...I'm not putting this up because of any agenda...I simply thought I would share...so keep any discussion civil.

:cheesy: OMG, seriously?? I almost couldn't get past the title "wealth inequality" or the fact that it was produced by "comingcrisisvideos". No, there's no agenda in this at all. But, in spite of that, I tried watching it anyway and truthfully, couldn't get past the first 30 seconds of it. The doom and gloom piano in the background just made me want to vomit.

All the fancy graphics, somber music or statistics can't change what I know. My father came to America as an immigrant with $5 in his pocket, barely a high school education and spoke very little English. Growing up, we've lived in the ghettos of East L.A., sold clothing and wigs at swap meets, lived in low income housing with no carpeting and didn't even have a real bed until I was 6 or 7. And in spite of it, my dad was still able to make something of himself, build up a successful business, buy a nice house in a great neighborhood and provide well for his family before passing away. If there's one thing he taught me, life is terribly unfair and whining about it won't do squat for you. He'd say, "if you don't like it here, you can always move to the country I left!"

I love the fact that there are insanely wealthy people in this country and I aspire to be one of them someday. The way I see it, here in America, we all have a chance of getting there. :yup:

Oh let's be clear...I said I was not posting it up for any agenda (of mine). I did not say there was no agenda in the video as clearly there is. While you or I might not agree with the message of the video, I still found it interesting to watch for a variety of reasons. Buy hey what do I know? ;)

Saw this when it hit a couple of months ago.... I will say putting what we already should know in graphical form helps people that may not fully digest wealth distribution.

In the end though, to one person, being worth a billion dollars might be described as 'wealthy', while to many others having a solid job, loving family, and able to do the things in life you'd like to would be described as 'wealthy'.

Congrats to your father for not giving up. Thanks for sharing. :thumb:

Being that you would agree there is a clear agenda in this video, I'd love to know what it is that interests you about it.

Also, I'd like to clarify that what I specifically said in the other thread you referred to is that "I am fascinated with science, technology and ingenuity" and that's why I shared it.

Maybe it's just me but I simply don't understand or even want to digest the idea of what I've worked hard to earn needs to be "distributed" to those who didn't.

^^X2!! Why would I ever choose to distribute my hard earned dollars to those who don't want to work hard (although my tax dollars do that without my consent) ?? Charity is one thing, we all give to worthy causes from time to time but, really??

I personally am far from wealthy. Hopefully I get there. But the idea that I should get something that doesn't belong to me. That someone else worked for and made and has to give up because I don't make what they make.... My Dad raised me to be better than that.

Oh please don't misunderstand what I am saying... I'm in total agreement with your statement.... I was simply saying that the graphical description is beneficial for people who don't understand what's going on. If someone chooses to read into and believe the sensationalized message behind the video that's one thing, but I'm specifically talking about the wealth distribution curves from the video. I know a lot of people that didn't understand the whole breakdown of the 99 vs. 1% thing, those curves can help illustrate it, regardless of which side of the fence you're on.
