Tail Gate prop-rod/strut

I've come to realize through on-trail research I need a way to keep my tailgate open when the jeep is leaning towards driver side. Since I've added a 35 inch tire on my linked gate it now tries to smash me on the trail. What are you guys using to hold your gates open?
Has anyone tried this?

But I have never used anything like that I just try and park where I'm leaning passenger side. Problem solved!
