superduty axle swap

I would think the junkyard 1 tons would be wider than a set of dynatrac's

It depends on the axle. For instance a kingpin 60 out of ford from 78 to late 80 or early 90 (not 100% when the kingpin stopped) is 69.5" wms and people always pair those with a 14 bolt and those are found all kinds of widths but the widest is also either 68.5 or 69.5 the one on my juggy i want to say is a 64" wms or possibly 66" cant fully remember. I ended up putting 2" spacers on the rear just to match it to the front. On my JK im running the 05+ Super Dutys and they are a 72"wms which is as wide as junk yards get.

Correct me if im wrong but a full width Dynatrac is a 68.5 or a 69.5 so we are only talking a few inches and that can be made up in wheel back spacing.

EDIT: Even though it doesnt go with what the OP asked I think its worth mentioning If I did it again in the JK id go the kingpin60 and 14bolt route. Its not for the factor of width but the fact that they are both much easier to work on and carry a lot better after market support as of now.

Haha I know, I was just kidding around lol. But if I wanted an axle that damn big, I would buy Axletechs since they would be cheaper than custom Dynatracs, and I know for a fact I couldn't break them lol. But we both know I'll never need an axle that big lol

Hell, you can't even decide what Jeep your current axles are going in.

Maybe you could talk Axletech into being a paying vendor on the forum since they're that good. I mean after all, paying vendors help keep this place going.

I'm still gathering parts for mine but doing the SD axle swap.. could care less how old the axles are and well the brakes are awesome and very cheap to replace. But I'm making my own fuel cell and seriously the little cubby in the back is inconvenient so loosing it has no impact on me. building them is a great idea if you are creative there is many fuel cells out there that could be fitted into place and work.

Also using SD axles if you have a failure which happens on every single item on a wheeled vehicle... SD parts are carried at every parts store and are inexpensive and you don't have to wait and pay $$$$$ for crate axles parts...

Exactly! If I break a u joint or something on the trail, I can always head to the closest store and get the part, swap it in in the parking lot and keep wheeling for the weekend. That's what Grubbicon did at Windrock.

True, anything and everything can fail but in the over 120,000 miles and almost 8 years I've been running my ProRock 60 front axle, I've yet to experience a failure of any kind. Hell, I'm still running the exact same parts that came on it when I ordered it. Same can be said about the full float 60 rear and now 80 that I'm running. Of course, I'm just a mall crawler and would never dream of playing as hard as some of you guys. Hell, I don't even have friends that I can talk about who do.

That is great, certainly not many people get the chance to wheel as much as you have and we all know from the videos you aren't scared to scratch your jeep. But if you have some mechanical experience and enjoy building things yourself buying built ones doesn't seem fun!

Sorry, didn't know we were talking about what may or may not seem fun to you. I was simply commented on what you were saying about failures.

The Currie Rock Jock Dana 70's are you're best bet. They have placed in the top finishers consistently in King Of The Hammer for the past several years. Not Dynatracs. They are also bolt in and can be had with chromoly shafts and gearing of your choice including lockers or a spool.

Those housings are not their production housings. Ive seen/read about plenty of failures on their production housings.
