Stock bumper Wench

I'm looking to get a good reasonably priced wench that will fit inside the front stock bumper. Does anyone have a thought?
 
I think you are referring to a winch not wench, because I believe it is illegal to put a woman inside of your bumper. :cheesy:

the issue you will have is supporting the winch as there is not a winch plate for the factory bumper. There are some manufactures that have winch plates for stock bumpers but they sit on top. To have the winch sit inside the bumper you will need to get an aftermarket bumper. I would also recommend not going cheap on the winch because when you absolutely need it there is a strong possibility of it failing. An example is on part 3 of the 2014 JKX.

I don't like wenches that small personally...there needs to be something to hold on to while "recovering". With that said, a $50 should do it. :idontknow:
 
I can't find the thread but I recall seeing very recently someone that mounted a winch upside down in the stock bumper. I don't remember anything else other than seeing the pictures. It was a steel cable winch with the fairlead even mounted behind the bumper.
 
There are several posts on other forums showing this process. A Google search will find them easily. Many use the Harbor Freight universal plate that requires some trimming. But end result is a hidden winch. Very slick looking.

I took that approach, but didn't bother flipping it upside down. So essentially, what I did was a budget mod to get a winch without replacing the bumper... yet. Found a steal on the winch ($180), spent $40 on the HF plate, and went to town with a sawzall and drill bit.

My bumper looks much worse for wear now though after kissing rocks on several occasions.

Ahhhh, that made me laugh! Need a stinger anyway for "wenches" safety.

That's right...the doucher. How could I forget!? Not a recent thread at all but it pops up every few months.

Yea..it is a decent job. I have a Quadratec winch like him except synthetic. Although it hasn't given me problems I cannot wait to get a Warn. :thumb:
