SSHHHH, don't tell my friends

2dr. Stretch BAM....

I've thought about doing this when the 4 door is paid off. I plan to get a truck (Silverado or F150) to use as my DD. I'd love to get a 2 door and stretch it. I'm sure my wife would throw sharp objects at me for even suggesting it though.

Lots of good info everyone, thank you for taking the time of put your thoughts down for me to read.
Got a lot of thinking to do.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Regrets

I have a 2DR, and there have been more times that I would like to admit, that I wish I had just gotten the 4DR instead. The ease of getting things/people/dogs/etc into the back of a 4DR is a huge bonus. Not to mention the added cargo capacity, and the towing capacity to boot. Plus, if you want to do a long, multiday trip, pull out the back seats and sleep in the 4DR. (I tried in the 2DR, and it just doesn't work). I have wheeled with both 2DR and 4DRs on the trail, and the only major difference is navigating tight sections. Yes the 2DR excels here, however, if it is not a dedicated trail rig, then the added ride comfort and space will make up for having to do a few extra maneuvers to get around.

I would never let my wife know that I have 2DR regrets, as she jumped through hoops to pick up the 2DR for me while I was away, but, I should have held out a little longer for the extra doors.

There is, and always will be a big 2 door VS 4 door debate. All I can give in my perspective from my experiences of owning both. I had an 83 CJ7, a 2013 2 door and a 2014 4 door. I personally loved the 2 door. I loved its capabilities, I loved the nimbleness, I loved the tight turning radius and I loved the looks. I never wanted t get rid of it. All of the things I loved about the 2 door, I still love about the 4 door! The truth of the matter is, Jeep did such a good job with the 4 door (in my opinion) that I really do not notice I have 2 extra doors back there the majority of the time. I do like the extra cargo room, the extra room for people (or even more cargo room), the longer wheelbase lends to a smoother ride all the way around, its more stable, less 'twitchy', etc. In my opinion, the 4 door is just as fun to drive and easier to live with everyday. It feels like an 'enhanced' version of what my 2 door was.
Depending on the type of wheeling you do, the main difference I see with the 4 door is break over angle. That's the only 'disadvantage' I have found, if you even want to call it that. With a 4 door, I personally would do 35s at a minimum (says the guy on 33s ). That's it. The advantages I get from my 4 door over the 2 door make it easier to live with and a more pleasant experience all the way around. The whole 'real Jeep' thing, in my opinion, is ridiculous. The last time I checked, they are both made by Jeep. If I were that shallow about it, I would have kept my CJ! My vote goes to the 4 door. Whatever you decide, I'm sure you will be happy with it as you already know the quirks, in's and out's of owning a Jeep. Good luck with your search brother!
