I think we have been at war with Iran for a long time. We have been striking Hezbollah, Hamas, and Houthis for decades. Letting them build a nuke would obviously destabilize the area. Iran saw how a few low tech nukes basically allow North Korea to talk shit nonstop. Unless you think they never were pursuing "weapons of mass destruction".
People say this is religious war, but I find it odd that Iran just started popping off on everyone in the region. They launched more attacks against the UAE than Israel. That's after the UAE declined our request to use its airspace for these attacks. Iran launched a dozen attacks on Oman, and they have basically zero US presence.
What I don't see a lot of talk about is how this affects China. Maybe for Israel, this was about Iran, but for us, it's about bullying China while we still can. Plus, it's clear now that if you have aligned with Russia, they won't/can't help you.
