It does not mean that at all. Surely (and damn it, I am going to call you Shirley) you wouldn't say that a child whose parents can provide a comfortable home, nutritious meals, going to schools that have low teacher to student ratios, well equipped facilities, tutors, etc., and don't have to provide child care to their siblings, work to help out at home, and a myriad of other advantages are not more fortunate than a child that does not have those things?

I have come a long way in my standard of living since I was in high school, but yet I realize that I am still more fortunate than many other people. Heck, just being born in the U.S. makes you more fortunate than millions of people born in third world countries.

I agree that some people are more "fortunate" than others in that they have a financial and/or social head start. A child has no control of the family they are born into, or physical/mental abilities.

Assuming a reasonably capable body and mind, there is little preventing personal success. Perhaps a blocker is deciding that others are more "fortunate" than oneself and so there is no reason to even try.

My parents came from families who became middle-class, yet they brought nothing with them except the clothes on their backs. The same is true of myself.

Unfortunately, the children are cared for by their parents, and if the parents did not strive to succeed then their children are out of luck until they become independent.

Surprisingly its got a little (and I mean a little) better around here. For a while there were f'n camps Everywhere. They seem to be pushing them out of the nicer areas. Still a big problem though.

yeah, Dallas is fucked. I was reading an article in a Dallas magazine on the number of Muslim only gated housing around Dallas and the guy (religious leader) stated they were welcoming the large number of Minnesota Muslims moving into the area.

The homes are mansions, starting at 700k and up. They do not allow non-Muslims to buy and were proud that not a single dog was in their community.

They are spreading like an unstoppable cancer
