Rubicon Shocks

I have some Rubicon shocks off my 12' and want to put them on my dad's 14' Sport.
The shocks have been in my garage the last two years in the extended position.
I've seen gas filled shocks restrained with straps before they're installed.
Should these shocks be fine ?

Yes, they'll be fine as long as there's no damage/rust/pitting to the shafts from exposure to the elements or harsh ambient air(i.e. salty costal air).

I'm just guessing here, but I think the reason for keeping them compressed is to make it easier to install, once extended they are hard to re compress to fit in place.

Thanks for the responses, they'll be going on his jeep this afternoon along with his new rear bumper.
He sold his 2000 TJ and bought his 2014 JK when he turned 80. Hope I'll be doing the same when I'm that age.
