Redneck ram

This will be one of my next upgrades I think, I hope to see yours in person first tho before I spend the money jay.

It will be later in the year... We are bringing the wife's Jeep on the 7th. She is super stoked to get her Lil-Punkin' on the trail. :yup:

Received and installed mine a few months ago. They installed new bearings and seal kit in my Delphi box when they drilled it out. When I called to get info prior deciding, they didnt try to upsell, or recommend a modified pump. I was told stock pump puts out plenty of pressure, and after running mine around I would agree. My steering is a touch slower at slow speeds, but even without raising rpm's, it turns with minimal effort.
I've had it on a few trails so far but the difference is night and day through the rocks.
Wayoflife had commented a while back that he saw one of these units fail, but I'm not sure which component it was. Maybe he can chime in on what it was. Mine came with Goodyear hoses and were quite heavy duty, and the fittings seemed good quality as well. As much as I would have liked to go PSC, timing and budget didn't work as I blew the seal and didn't want to wait to get back on the trail.
Here's what came in the box.

Bumping this up with a small update....

When I ordered my kit I needed 6.75" of tie rod travel. When I got my gear back and the ram the paperwork said I had an 8" ram that was adjusted to 6.75" travel. Unfortunately, when I was bleeding the system I noticed that I was only getting 6" of stroke out of the ram and it was keeping my from using all my turning. (I was approx 3/8" off of both hard stops.)

I called WTO and discussed the issue with them. They offered to have me send the ram in and they would remove some shims. I had the tools to do this so I just opted to remove them myself.

Well, I have not driven my Jeep very much sense this call so, I hadn't tackled this. I was just careful not to turn sharp. With the very little driving I have done I can tell you I am happy with the road manners. The Jeep is VERY steady on the interstate and steering speed seems more than sufficient with normal driving. I have had a few times at idle where the steering was heavy and slow. This will likely result in pump work down the road as a lot of wheeling I do is at or near idle.

This last weekend I went to open the ram and learned that there actually was no shims and I had been shipped a 6" travel ram! Again, I called WTO to try to resolve this and they apologized and told me they were more than happy to send me a new ram. The catch is I am now kind of in a pinch to get my Jeep wrapped up and trail ready. I really need the ram sooner. I found them unwilling to assist with any expedited shipping. I know this costs more for them, but honestly this was their mistake (twice) and IMO I am out time and money for their mistake too (paint and fluid).

Supposedly I will have the new ram Friday with me paying the difference from ground to second day. :Fingers crossed:

The bottom line is if you order from them I would make absolutely certain that your ram strokes correctly before install. FWIW a 10" body ram strokes 6". (Who would've thought you loose 4" to ends and the piston?)

Back in 2009, I built a Scout II with a 496 stroker big block Chevy, TH400, and Dana 20. I was running 35's and opted to install a Redneck Ram system since I was wheeling mostly in SoCal at the time. The system worked pretty well with the exception of low RPM operation and then it became very heavy to steer. It's was a bit frustrating to always kick into neutral, increase RPM's, then get the turn you needed. 4 Low operation was much better since I was operating at a higher RPM range to begin with. I did call them and their fix was to increase standing idle. I had already set my vehicle's idle at 850 RPM's in gear, due to the cam profile. Now fast forward, at some point I'm going to install a Ram system on my JKUR but it won't be a Redneck Ram.

Bumping this yet again with another update.

My system is now working well and with only about 70 miles of road on it I am fairly pleased. I'll update later with a trail review.

This said, I have a friend that had a failing steering box and they opted to go with WTO for a rebuild and add the ram while he was at it. Sadly, when he got his box back and installed he had a leak at one of the ports. This leak ended up coming from the upper port being drilled to close to a wall and the threads protruded. (seen below)

I can't find an excuse for this mistake. clearly there is more to the name "Redneck". Are they looking at their work at all?

This is the second WTO system I am aware of in my "circle" and they are 2 for 2 on quality issues....
