To be fair, aside from side by sides (and they're technically not allowed in DV), there are just a ton more of them out there than any other off road vehicle made. I have no doubt this could just as easily been a Jeep ass wipe too. I don't think being a douchebag has a brand that they're loyal to. Sad truth is, a big part of the problem is that manufacturers of off road vehicles and aftermarket parts work really hard to inspire people to get out use their vehicles and equipment, off road. In fact, doing so is celebrated on social media and I get it. Unfortunately, very little if any effort is made by these companies to not be a douchebag while doing it. In fact, there literally are people who are defending this guy now saying things like how, "it's just dirt" and it's lame how they should be "free to do what they want" and that it's lame that "the government restricts everything."

It’s the lack of respect for everything nowadays that’s plaguing this country.

Officials searching for suspects accused of illegal off-roading in Death Valley​

The worst part about it, there are people out there actually defending this guy, just like that asshole who got stuck in the mud in the Saline Valley and pulled down a historic tram tower a while back

Damn, 1994 was a long time ago. Seems this guy didn’t get the message that Clinton took Eureka Dunes out of BLM control and handed it to the National Park Service.
His Desert Protection Act also made Death Valley National Monument and Joshua Tree National Monument into National Parks robbing the American public of millions of acres of desert recreation. The Mojave Preserve was also included in this Act.
I didn’t agree with that, nor do I agree with what this clown did. There is ample signage everywhere near there stating foot traffic only. So yeah, entitled assholes.

I am going to play Devil's Advocate on this one.
How did the authorities get this picture? Did the individual involved notify them?
It seems that the person turned himself/herself in to the authorities.
If so, it would seem that the only crime involved is stupidity.
1) Never wheel alone, always have others with you.
2) Always go prepared to get stuck,, bring a winch with you. Bring reovery gear.
3) Always check weather reports. Look for any dangerous conditions involving your intended exploration area.

I always do the above.
I built my rig with the idea that if I am out wheeling and get stuck, it's because I did something stupid. Not because my JEEP couldn't handle it.
I have all of the normal gear: ropes winch, shackles, d rings, communications radios and gps system. I also have a ground anchor at all times when we are out in the great, vast wilderness. After all you never know when or if you will need them.
This individual involved should definitely pay for the damages. And, believe it or not, we all have done stupid things in our lives and most of us will continue to be stupid. It is not illegal to be stupid. If it were, then 99% of the population would be serving life sentences for being Stupid Without a Permit.
