OK mcpuck count me in! Got the all clear when the wife found out that Santas Art Shop is the same day and she won't miss THAT! LOL

RD. I'm headed down to nags head and hatteras all this coming week. How far is the OBX from you?

Hey Mike! Thanks for the invite, Nags Head is only 2 hours away, but this weeks going to be a little too crazy for me to get out there. Thanks again!

Cool deal! I figured it would be a non-player unless you lived real close to the beach. Have a great Thanksgiving

My son and I just wheeled this on Sunday 24NOV. This is no longer the canyon you just walk up. The rains we have experienced over the last couple of weeks have rearranged the canyon in a manner that now presents some good obstacles. If you come in from the Randsburg RD side your first obstacle is going to be a bear. The main part of the obstacle will be on the driver's side. There is now about a 3-4' hole that is lined with some good size boulders. There is a bypass to the passenger side but I can't recall how wide it is but did see dirtbike tracks over there. The other three rock gardens between here and the V-notch have been rearranged so they too are more of a challenge. The V notch is also not as epic as it once was as sediment has begun to fill it in at a rapid rate. Instead of being a foot or two off the ground you are mere inches. Don't get me wrong, still a cool obstacle and worth doing for those that care. Also one will see where new alluvial fans have been installed by mother nature then cut in half by the same entity.

Also the hill that will take you over to the Burro Schmidt Tunnel, Holly Cleanser and Dutch Cleanser mines, Bickel Camp and so on has degraded a tad. That meaning it is more challenging. This is the hill that is at 2:11 in the OP's first post, there is now a two ft or so step in the middle of this hill. There is a bypass. We did not do the extra challenges due to being a single Jeep adventure. We did not venture out towards Colorado and Holland Camps either so I cannot speak to those roads and canyons.

Nothing on the trail is insurmountable it is just that the leaders and spotters will have to exercise extra care with the n00bs. Spotting will be essential in these rock gardens for those that are stock and without rockrail/belly armor. Now of course since I posted this the good rangers will have graded this road by the time you guys get there and none of this will be there so please take this report with a grain of salt.

Again, don't let this report discourage you from going if anything, use it a more motivation to go... At this writing I am not going to be available to join you but if that changes I will be there.

DaK.

Thanks DaK for the update. We did have a crew pre-run this a few days ago and it is enough to build confidence in new off roaders and stock Jeeps, but nothing that is not doable.

Agree with that. Great place to learn. I actually use it and nightmare as a standard to evaluate mods and upgrades.

Hey Mcpuck... I'm gonna have to change mine to a maybe. Doing a 650mi turnaround trip on that Friday... Not sure if ill be up to it on Saturday.
