Damn. I've stated elsewhere on here that the MOPAR guy in me wouldn't dare put anything but a MOPAR powerplant in my Jeep when the time comes, but I've been watching your videos and that Gen V LS setup and your conversion kit is a thing of beauty. Awesome work!

I'm resistant to change so I held judgement on the Gen V's, the Gen IV's are great so why change? Well same thing happened in 2007, I started dong Gen IV swaps when everyone else was comfortable with the Gen III engines. After a lot of miles I can say these Gen V's are the future, direct injection, CVVT, 8 speed, high compression, regular gas....... You can gear tall and get good mpg and not lose performance.

It's all about cylinder pressure and I say these Gen V's are 1/2 way to a diesel. GM is holding these engines back, we have removes much of the torque management and these engines can compete with most of the crate engines out there, LS and Hemi on regular gas getting good economy.

Any longer road tests in an L83/8speed yet? L83 is certainly cheaper than the L86. L86 low end torque is amazing though.

Is your new Motech CAN module fairly close to release? Or is it a ways out yet?

This is really sweet! Any recommendations based on expected usage and performance between a Hemi and a LS?
This is in my bucket list.

I own many old Mopar muscle cars including a Hemi Charger, Challenger T/A.... I like Mopar's but you can't beat an LS in a JK. Compact, light, all aluminum, excellent modern transmissions and cool well. We have done three Hemi to LS swaps recently and each customer was very happy with the difference.

The Gen V 5.3 is a great engine and I think will become the best "standard" engine in a JK. Has plenty of power and economy at the right price. This JK wheeled great with the 6 speed and pulled the hills just fine in this 4 door JK. Were doing a couple 5.3 8 speeds now but they are not on the road yet , here is the L83 6 speed.

MoCAN is alive and well, we have actually been working with the CAN interface for many years. Were finally at a point we feel it is robust enough with enough backups to put it into production. We have to assure the GM powertrain runs regardless of what happens on the Chrysler side, as you all know a bad TIPM can take your JK down. Getting the functionality through a CAN bridge is not hard, getting OE level reliability is where we need to be. We brought in some OE level CAN programmers to meet this goal. I'm currently doing on and off road testing with the new module and we hope to have 20 installed by summer. We have 10 pre-production units coming in 2 weeks and they will be installed and tested in house.

Will the new MoCan module be available with a builder's kit for the home diy swap?

I finally just watched the video of you taking off, behind the warehouse. I'm impressed. That definitely looks stronger than the 5.3 in the 2010 pickup, I had.

Are any more videos of the Gen V 5.3L coming? I’m very interested in it, for a potential future swap. I see Chevrolet is now listing them at 355 hp, with lots of mid range torque.

Good call on bumping this thread! I'm pretty sure they do have more clips and I think everyone here would love to see them :yup:

Great bump! I wanna do a 5.3 vortec at some point. Would love to hear more info on it as well

Our '06 Yukon XL 1500 has 186k on it and the motor has been fantastic. No issues at all.

Lucky!

Picture of the cam from my ‘07 Silverado with 110k miles. Should have seen the crank it was way worse.

But I do agree. Historically and statistically the sbc is a very reliable engine.
