Like him or hate him, the death of Justice Scalia today will have a more profound effect on our country than the results of our next presidential election.

For those of you with a more conservative bent, there is much to be afraid of. The thought of a late-term Obama appointment to the Court is frightening.

You are very right. Supreme Court Justice is a lifelong appointment and their interpretations may be law of the land for decades to come. President Obama said he would make his appointment "in due time"...I am interested to see what due time is...I hope it doesn't mean Recess....
 
Regardless of political leanings I think it's somewhat hilarious that people somehow think a sitting president should wait almost a year to appoint someone.
 
Shame on me for not knowing this, but is it possible for Congress to delay approving the nomination until the next president is elected? Has that ever happened? :thinking:

Edit: just read several news outlets.... let the maneuvering begin. With the 4-4 split right now this isn't looking good.

With inauguration a year away, then the first list, the vetting process, the short list then choosing the actual nominee before it even goes to congress, waiting until after the election will probably make a mess of things for a while regardless of ideology. Gonna be interesting to see how an Off-Road Supreme Court (4x4) handles it.
 
Its kinda weird that they are rushing to bury him and aren't doing an autopsy. Apparently there is some controversy surrounding how his body was discovered and the pillow covering his face. I also feel the need to voice my opinion on it being weird that Obama will not attend the funeral of such an important figure.

Obama.That worthless pile crap won't attend Scalia's funeral. Must have some Muslims to honor for their work with suicide vest and car bombs.
