Just saying "Hey!" From the pacific-northwest

Hello everyone! Just joined the forums and thought I'd make a post. I am currently living in the PugentSound area of the Pacific-Northwest and looking to buy my first Jeep in the coming months. One of my primary reasons for joining this forum is to get some advice on what to buy, before I pull the trigger. I will definitely be searching the forums b/c I know this is probably one of the top repeateded topics, but if anyone cares to reply to this with some advice I would appreciate it. At the moment, I am kinda torn between an older 08-10 JKU Rubicon or a newer 13 JKU Sport. The ride will probably be 75% daily driver, with monthly day trips and a big yearly trip into the Naches for a week or so.

I would, however, our yearly week-long camping/jeep'ing trip is in July and while I would normally tag along with someone else they have a full ride this year. So it's either bring my own ride or miss out on the trails. :(

I am in a similar short term pain, long term gain situation too.

Could always keep an eye out and maybe you get lucky with a gently used '13 Rubi at a price you can afford :)

Yeah, I have several months to keep an eye out. But, finding a '13 JKUR in this area for under $30K would be a very rare find and either there'd be something wrong with it or the seller just really has no idea what they have.

Welcome to Wayalife! Fellow PNW resident here. Had the same dilemma myself a month ago. I searched and search for the right deal. Ultimately decided on a brand new 14 JKU sport. Wanted a rubicon but had to be honest with myself, and my budget, for what I actually needed. For the money, I decided it just wasn't worth buying used to save a few $1000. Negotiated the deal via email before I even drove the Jeep. Ended up getting exactly what I wanted for $1500 below invoice. I started out by emailing every dealer within 100 miles, told them what I wanted and asked for their price. Bought from the one that had what I wanted for the lowest price.

What I picture in my mind as a "finished product", is running 35's. I think for the trails I intend to run that will do just fine. With that being said, I am worried that the non-Rubi's D30 won't be enough and I'm gonna end up having to change it out for the D44 in the end anyway. Combine that with the convenience of not needing to get out to disconnect the sway bar or engage the lockers and the appeal of the Rubicon edges a bit ahead. On the other hand, the interior redesign of the 11+ and the upgraded engine of the 13+ appeal to my need for it to be my daily driver for 90% of it's use. So, that leaves me at a crossroad with only a $30k budget, older Rubi vs. newer Sport.

The superior gearing and of course the lockers of the Rubicon go a long ways to not having to do that, even with 35s on a sport. Unless you really want to. A little more now to save a lot later.

But that is just me.

I swapped out both front and rear axles and t-case in my LJ :)

My buddy just traded in his '05 LJ Sport for a '11 JKUR. I thought about picking up a LJR, but I think with a family of 4, plus a mid-sized dog, the JKU is the way to go.

All valid points and was exactly the way I was thinking. In the end since I daily drive it far more than I will get to wheel it, having a new vehicle with warranty, better motor and nicer interior far outweighed the few times a year I would have to get out and disconnect the sway bar. All the Rubicons I could find that we're less enough to be worth it had 80-100k miles. Just about the time repairs start to add up to about the cost of lockers, gears and other axle upgrades would for a my new Jeep.

And of course, buying new I got to have ANVIL color!!!
