Jeep trying to start by itself!!! Help

Years ago the YJ had a recall due to them self starting, super dangerous if it was a manual transmission left in gear. The problem was traced to the bulkhead connector having carbon tracking that completed the start circuit.

So I found the problem. The foil cover around the starter was touching the wire and was grounding to the block. Every time the foil made contact with the block it would try to start.

Good thing you found it. Could have been pumping carbon monoxide into your house all night. Saw that you disconnected the battery until you figured it out. Smart move.
