Jeep JK Wrangler 730N/RHR Radio Installation Write-Up

Caught the Bug
Hi nmwrangler. Wondering how things are going with your mod? Still liking your decision and the install? Any problems / frustrations? Most of my readings are telling me that the 730n/RHR wasn't compatible with the 2007-2010 JK's, but yours seems to work OK. Getting closer to pulling the trigger, but additional input would be beneficial.

Thanks for any assistance.

Pros: super easy install, looks great, I love the music storage, streams from my iPhone easily, easy to add a mic and take calls from jeep hands free, theft deterrent because it's factory.

Cons: the bass is too much for the sound bar and when I play FM stations I have to turn the bass down, navigation isn't so hot ( I use my phone for that anyway), there's no inexpensive way to hook up a rear camera, no easy way to add an aftermarket amp or sub.

Would I buy it again? Yea, probably but mainly because I live in a city with one of the highest property crime rates, if not the highest, in the country. I also just like the factory look. I didn't like the way some of the aftermarket stereos in the 500-600 dollar range looked.

Having said all this, do your homework and make sure factory is what you want. You will need a code to unlock the mygig. Make sure you get this from the seller. If you don't have a factory amp to go along with it, sound will be less than optimal. I have not discovered an inexpensive or easy way to add an amp and sub.

Taking the plunge to a 730n

My 2015 Sahara has the 110s radio with U-connect,

I plan on replacing it with a 730n RHR I purchased off of ebay, the seller swears that this will be plug and play but now I am wondering after skimming through this tread.

since I know have u-connect i am wondering how that will affect my installation, I would also like to add a rear camera but imagine I will need the nav-tek interface to do so, Comments?

Thanks

If you are installing the 730N specifically for navigation you could have a problem.

I just finished up my 130S (uconnect) to 730n RHR. The upgrade itself wasn't bad, adding the mic/bluetooth cable to be able to eliminate the original uconnect module made the process easy and did not require adding a separate microphone. I when ahead and updated the firmware to 2.700 and gracenotes to 6908 without issues but here is were I ran into the brick wall.

I contacted Navteq today and was told I could not upgrade the map database. Apparently Navteq released the latest map upgrade on Sept of 2020, this was the 2021 upgrade. This upgrade killed a number of units and was withdrawn from the market and is not available for purchase. Here's the rub, once Navteq releases an update they remove all other versions for purchase. So, you cant get a prior update as well. According to the specialist at Navteq you cannot get a 730 update until Sept of 2021 when the next release is due. Well, that just sucks, talk about nimrods, why not make the pre Sept 2021 upgrade available to subscribers. Not going to happen. Now I wished I had gone with the 430 as my Wrangler is a toad for my RV and I need a map database that is at least current.

So, here's your alternatives, if you dont give a crap about nav no worries, otherwise get a 430N, Garmin upgrades are available and easy to get. If your in love with the 730 and need nav live with whatever is in your unit or plan on purchasing an additional Nav unit (or use your android smart phone or iphone). This wont work for me because cell services doesn't work everywhere in the US. I gave Navteq 2 cents worth about this today an suggest if you have a 730 you consider doing the same, Navteq number is 866-462-8837, spread the word, the squeaky wheel gets the oil.

Hopefully this post might save someone in my situation and on the fence about which radio would be the best to purchase.
