Is it safe to use screws to mount here?

I am thinking of screw mounting magnetic O-ring mount for iPhone here, screw down the base of the phone holder.

Just wondering how much clearance there is to use half inch screws.

There is plenty of aftermarket options that bolt into that factory bolt in the tray that look great and are super sturdy. I have one from BulletPoint and it’s been rock solid even on high speed desert runs - phone doesn’t budge.

The radio mounts right under that and the plastic is not very thick like @DirtHeadDavis said you’d be better off with a mounting solution like bulletpoint it’s also what I run on mine and it’s solid

As you can see here where I drilled the hole in mine to power my phone charger the radio is right under it
