All Wranglers, from 2007 on up use a transponder chip ignition key. Some have the Sentry-Key (remote type key) and some have standard keys, but all use a transponder chip for security. These keys are VERY expensive from the dealer, usually well over $100 per key for the key and programming.
You can purchase and program these keys yourself, but you MUST have two working keys. If you loose a key and only have one key, you must go to a dealer or locksmith and pay big bucks for that key.
If you have two working keys, you can purchase blank keys and program them yourself per the directions in your Owner's Manual (not the User's Guide that came with the vehicle). Full Owner's Manuals are available for free at

Basic replacement keys are very inexpensive from many internet sellers. The USA made keys are generally better quality. Do a Google search for:

A lot of good sites will come up.
Get a third key now in case you loose one.
