Hood locks?

Does anybody have an opinion for or against using a lock for your hood? If so, could you recommend one?

The only thing I have against them is if you needed to get under your hood in a hurry like to put out an engine fire, every second counts.

I agree somewhat but I only use my hood lock when I'm going to be away from my JK for an extended period of time to slow the criminals down from stealing parts otherwise its unlocked and always when driving off road.
 
I guess I'm thinking of a long term parking situation or parking in a sketchy neighborhood. I know everything can be defeated but, I don't want to make it easy for some thief to steal what I have worked hard for.

I purchased three different hood locks. The first one was made by Crown Automotive. Don't waste your money on that one that's for sure. The second one was made by Rugged Ridge. It was okay at best. The third one is made by Mopar. By far the best quality and most secure hood lock I have found.

I totally agree and that's why I purchased and use a hood lock
 
Seems like a good thing to have. I would want one that I can leave unlocked most of the time and lock when I'm going to leave my Jeep in a higher risk area like a large parking lot or something.

I used to work in Baltimore, so I know about the need for a hood lock. I went with the Mopar, the best by far.
Get the Mopar hood lock and there will be no regrets.
 
I believe that is the only one they sell based on my search. The Tuffy lock appears to be the same thing. The only difference is the Mopar lock keys to your ignition key. The Tuffy does not. Not to mention the enormous price difference....$150.00 for the Mopar vs. $39.00 for the Tuffy. Still need to verify the quality of both.

I have the Tuffy, it works fine and it cost less. I just keep the key on the loop with the ignition, so it it never too far away in case of a emergency.
 
I have insurance and I dont worry about it..even with a supercharger.
I just don't think today's thieves are very interested in stealing anything off cars.
 
I have the Tuffy, bought it for one reason only, hood flutter. Totally gets rid of it if it's adjusted right.

The cost of the Mopar hood lock I installed was cheaper than my deductible. I came home from a business trip one winter and my hardtop was stolen. I had to prove to the insurance company that my Jeep came with two tops, which was by far more of a hassle than the amount of money it cost for the lock. People around me have had wheels stolen from their cars in the driveway. Theft is creeping into the better neighborhoods now that cities are cutting back on Police forces.
