Hooked
There are far greater resources than I for where to go in the Sierra's... I am still learning my own way around as I've stuck to my own little mountain for most of my life. Find an established camp area and go exploring from there, I use google maps satellite view before I go exploring to get a lay of the land and try to memorize primary road names. Sometimes I find cool spots to camp for the next trip while out looking around.Thank you CalSgt, I live in the East Bay of northern CA and look forward to getting lost in the Sierra's. Can you recommend some trails in North Eastern CA?
Maybe find a group or club to start going out with, also there are big organized groups that go through the Rubicon several times per year if that is something you are interested in. I'm not sure what the process is to join one of them though.
Lots of camping and hiking opportunities near Mt. Shasta & Mt. Lassen areas, but many of the forests (private Sierra Pacific & lumber Co. lands) get shut down to vehicle traffic in the summer months anymore due to fire danger
