Hope courts uphold it too. Nice to see some democrats get on board with this too.

That is the hope for sure but at least it won't be something that future administrations can just nix. It is the biggest reason why so many auto makers have been so focused on EV - they had no choice but to hedge their bets on it. Now, they are free to move forward with ICE again.

While I somewhat support this decision (albeit not caring about Californians self-inflicted plight), I have concern regarding states rights. In fact all of us should care about states rights very much!

If the decisions are made at the federal level, where are we to go if the state we currently live in also becomes a shit-hole state? All of the states might become shit-hole states as they operate under federal rule. The United States would have almost no reason to retain its name.

It seems much better to punish California in some other way, such ensuring that they do not receive as many EVs as they would require. In fact this would require no overt action at all since the plan was doomed to fail from the start. They could become like Cuba, nursing along their old cars, and old lawnmowers.

We should just allow California to fail.

So you disagree with the Federal Government fighting for Freedom?

Unfortunately the states rights issue was settled about 150 years ago and states lost. I agree the congress should have found other ways of realigning Californias misguided ways (withholding federal money) but that is easily changed with a new congress and administration.

It seems that there are multiple parties all deserving "freedom" at the same time. Who should be the loser?

It is not very likely that California's plan would have survived until the due date due to a shortage of magnets, a shortage of transmission lines, a shortage of generated power, a shortage of cars, a shortage of charging stations, etc.. Eventually the people would have figured it out, fired the lawmakers, and hopefully selected much better ones.

Just as with a small child, it is often best to allow failure as a useful educational experience.

eventually is sometimes too late and a hard correction before "eventually" is required.

would you allow the small child to walk up to a campfire with marshmallow in hand thinking eventually they will figure it out and then remind them of the lesson they learned if they survive the 3rd degree burns and disfigurement?

You’re not wrong. However we all get to share in the pain when California goes tits up due to their stupidity. So there’s never any real consequences.

Mandating EV’s isn't a freedom to anyone. It’s Retarded.
