Does AutoStick/manual mode shifting direction seem backwards to anyone else?

Every time I use the JL auto trans in manual mode I have to take a second to remind myself which way to push/pull the lever to upshift or downshift. I feel like I'm using a Playstation controller with the movement buttons reversed.

I assume the logic behind the way it is now is because we mostly use manual mode when crawling at low speed, and on a manual trans, 1st gear is forward, 2nd gear is back. Maybe it's confusing to me because pulling the lever backward should be like pulling back on the reins when you want your horse to slow down. For an off-road vehicle, I would think downshifting means we want to slow down forward momentum, therefore it should be a backwards tap of the shifter to downshift.

I wish there was a way to reverse the shifting directions in AutoStick mode (which just autocorrected to autistic mode, lol) via Tazer or the like.

Anyone else have this mental disability to remember the manual shifting directions and have found a way to make it make sense?

LOL - you are not the only one. I always have to give it a second thought too. I think of it the way I do the transfer case shifter - pull down to get into LO and push up to go into HI or 2WD. To me, the manual shift should be the same, pull down to get into a lower gear and push up to get into a higher one. It's just weird that they are opposite and yes, it'd be nice if you could change this especially being that it's all drive by wire 🤪

So, can paddle shifters be added to a 3.6l? I see the setting in the tazer.

But yes, it seems backwards. I will have to check on my other car. I havent used the lever to shift, but the paddles.

Don’t 392s have paddle shifters? They can be added but I’m not sure what’s involved.
Edit found this. Looks like easy upgrade.

Ah, ok that could be a good coping mechanism for me to think of it like the transfer case, especially since the transfer case gear markings are right there next to it.
