DIY Rock sliders

Looking at fabing up some rock sliders for the JKU. I really like the evo sliders and considering doing something similar. Looking for ideas and suggestions. If anyone has pics of there own, post them up for us to see

It's not that difficult if you can do basic fab and weld. Helps to have a pipe bender and a pipe end notcher but I've seen it done with a grinder and creative use of a bottle jack. I set mine at 55 degrees to the ground to keep them tight. Mine are basically an ACE copy. I've beat them hard and they are scratched and dented but doing their job.

I went with 1.75 od x.120 wall Dom for mine. Didn't have access to a bender with tight enough radius so I angle cut the tube. Picked up the tubing notcher at good ole harbor freight.
Went with grade 8 bolts and weld nuts in frame for mounting so they are removable. So far so good, field tested a few times and the DOM flexes well on the rocks and has not dented. There's a reason Dom is used for race car frames, it's stronger than sh*t.
At first I started with flux core wire but it was too messy (too much clean up) and finished with .030 solid core. Had to set up a wind screen a few times outside but saved some time.
Threw up a few pics on an album if your interested.

my fabrication skills are limited to what i can do with Velcro, zip ties and duct tape  ...i like those sliders

Rockers

That is a nice set of rockers you built. Looking at building a set similar to the EVO rockers. My brother in law is pretty dang good at fabing and he is gonna help me work up a set for my rig.

Both look pretty good. Nice work. I have about the same quality of appearance of my MIG welds. Not wanting to buy fabrication tools I went with the EVO rails and welded them on. With a little more experience and some better looking welds I might make a set from scratch. Might need to replace the HF welding machine though. Maybe a good Miller?

I wish that the few JK sites I visit had dedicated fabrication forums.

I fabbed these up for my buddies yota, pretty simple design, but they are super solid. One thing I would recommend if you wheel in the trees or rocks a lot is having the sliders stick out a little more... They can really save the side of your truck if they do... And as far as the tubing notcher goes, you can get a very tight fit if you just clip two sides of the pipe on a 30 degree angle( wish I had a real photo to describe this) hers a quick drawingImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1377962092.793214.jpg

AKA the fish mouth. Make them with a cutoff saw at a 45 too.

Disregard.....HH6 (military slang for the wife) just cleared me to buy a set of the EVO sliders lol.

^^ those look awesome that's pretty much what I'm trying to have mine look like, what paint did you use?

Not sure which ones your asking about but mine are powder coated, the powder is called splatter black, it has just a little bit of texture to it.
