Coming up to Speed With Grubbicon

A little up date. Last Sunday I broke my winch line and am debating on what other line to put on it. Sunday night it also got flooded pretty bad.

I left a good bit of my stuff in the back so I hand to leave that out to dry. Boy do I regret leaving that stuff in there.

I have been wanting to pull the carpet out and bed line the inside and I turned this into the time to do it. I have started to get that rubbery stuff (no clue what it actually is) out of the floors. I got a little over half of it out so far. Hope to finish it up tomorrow. I used to be lazy with wiring and used the carpet to hide some wires so im also in the process on working on that.

I also ended up at Oriellys today so tomorrow I plan to change the Oil in the Jeep as well as the rear diff fluid. I also hope to finish getting that stuff out and cleaning up the wires. I got a feeling I will run out of time but we will see.
 
Maan, I've been there & it sucks when you get all of your tools flooded like that. Maybe a little late but a good way to get all that sound deadener out is to is paint thinner. You can actually scoop it out without any left over.

Seems everyone has there own ways of getting that stuff out. I have been using a hammer, chisel and heat gun. A few friends did theirs this way and it isnt horrible nor is it that fast. Ive also heard wire wheel will get it done fast. I thought about using a air chisel but a friend told me he ended up putting a hole in his floor with one so I figured id avoid that one. I dont feel like getting the welder out with it this hot to fix that if it goes wrong.
 
Not sure what kind of line your interested in but I have a spare steel warn cable you can have, it's never been used.

Thanks you for the offer but I will most likely get another warn synthetic line. When it snapped it did hit one guy. After seeing how well it did with not injuring anyone I dont think I would want to run a steel cable.

No problem, synthetic is definitely the way to go!
 
Well the rear passengers side axle shaft finally broke Sunday. I cant believe it took this long to break it. I believe what im gonna do is put the cheapest thing I can find in it for now to get me to the Uwharrie run in a few weeks. Once I find the right set of axles im gonna start the one ton project with hopes the 44s wont stay much longer.

Well of course as we know it seems like when something breaks it is always off camera. I was on the Gulches ride with fellow Wayalifers Sunday and there was one trail that I really want to give it a try. It really didnt look that bad but with the loose dirt and the rain the night before it turned out not that great.
It wasnt this exact spot but here a picture of the climb that was next to the one I broke on.

For the record I did not make that one so I went to the other spot where I broke. It was about the same but the rocks were straight up instead of at an angle like those. I tried it a couple times easy and I kept sliding to one side. I gave it another try and hit it a little bit harder but it still wasnt enough. Trevor (his screen name is Thardy) was spotting me and said I dont see it happening. Well I gave it the famous one more try line. I laid in it pretty hard that time. I believe I was almost on top when I heard the pop. When I heard it I thought it was the driveshaft considering I only have 1310s in it. Tyler (Mr.Ty) said that I lost all power to the passenger side when it popped. Well when I pulled it apart earlier I confirmed that Tyler was right.

Tomorrow im gonna see about getting that out of there. Im hoping this carrier is still all fine. I believe it is but if its not im just gonna put it back together and let the Jeep sit in the corner until the big axles are ready for it.

Then also to add to the day on the way home I got a flat on the trailer...

I completely screwed myself when I made a joke about a flat on the trailer earlier that day.
 
Well today I ended up pulling the other shaft out so I could pull the carrier out. Turns out the splines on the driver side shaft arent looking great.

When the carrier came out it seems that the shaft is really broke off in the locker. Not really sure how to go about getting that piece out since it is not hollow in there.

When the carrier came out it seems that the shaft is really broke off in the locker. Not really sure how to go about getting that piece out since it is not hollow in there.

Exact same thing just happened to me last week. Ended up pulling off the ring gear, there are two little screws holding the collar on and then you can pull that piece off the carrier that the axleshaft chunk will be stuck in. It was way simpler than I thought it would be. Good luck.

This is what I ended up doing. I hit it a few times and it broke a piece off then I was able to get it off fairly easy. Im amazed the splines in the locker were fine but they were.

Tough week. Hope you get those axles together quick so you can get back on the trails!

Definitely not the easiest week ever but I got it pretty much solved now. Now that Im to the point of putting it back together I got to figure out what I want to do about shafts.

Well at least you caught that now. Imagine replacing the one side to snap the other right after? Eek

That would of sucked but im definitely gonna keep that one around as a spare.
