Colorado Fall Colors Part 2

Seems like everyone liked the first part so is here is the second part....
So after driving up Kebler Pass and down Ohio Pass we went out and hit Owl Creek Pass on the way back from Gunnison.
Owl Creek Pass goes through the heart of the Cimarron mountain range just East of the San Juan's.

Above is Beaver lake just below Silverjack lake.


Some of the Cimarron mountains with color.



Above is a shot of Chimney Rock near Ridgway which is known as the back drop from the original John Wayne's 'True Grit' Movie.

So this past weekend we went on another local run to the West of Montrose on the divide road across the Uncompahgre plateau.

Found this side road and had to throw the rig in on the photo!



Damn... can't stop putting this Jeep in the pic's.

Some of the brightest colors were on this run!

Strange growth patterns that couldn't be passed up without a pic.


We then went on over to Dolores Colorado and up the Dolores creek road through Rico and over Lizard head Pass

The colors were still 'popping' here.

Hope you enjoy this round as we had a major weather front move through this past week with high 40 mph winds which dropped most of the leaves. There's always next year.....

I sure do love the fact I'm only a few minutes away from the mountains and can go explore them daily.. It sure does make staying in Colorado easier !!!

The great thing about working this away from home job in Montrose was the great 4-wheeling and the great access to the fall colors. This Western slope area is nice, but it is 4.5 hours from you to get here. Maybe next year plan a weekend get away and hit this area.

I was literally in the same area a week ago! The colors are peaking like crazy. I took last dollar road on the way out and it was just insane.
Talking to other local photographers i came across one guy at least in his 70s. He told me out of the 30 years hes been photographing colorado this was one of the more crazier years hes seen. Supposedly there was a real bad fungus issue last year. I couldnt of picked a better time to show up!

Great photos...I'm just an amateur trying to capture the beauty of a great four wheeling trip (who wishes he could be as good as you and others). Thanks for sharing! That was good timing on the color fest and we also enjoyed the Silverjack / Owl creek area, did you go down the Dolores Creek road on out from Last Dollar / Telluride back home? it was really popping but cloudy when we went thru and didn't get many good pics.
