Every year, I ask what Cindy would like to do for her birthday and every year, she always gives the same answer - get out of the house and wheel! This year, we decided to head on down to one of our favorite places anywhere, Tonopah and use it as a jump off point to explore the desert and mountains beyond. As luck would have it, our good friends Tony and Steph, Adam and Tina and Rachel and Ray were able to join us on our adventures. While we didn't take as many pics as we normally do, here are a few highlighting some of the fun we had. I hope you enjoy
After packing up Moby, Cindy's favorite Jeep, we hit the road and made to our home away from home.
Along the way, we made our usual stop along the shores of Walker Lake to take in the amazing view.
Tessa being a good girl and sitting still for the camera even though she just wants to play.
On the road again and with sun just starting to set.
Oh how we so love sunsets in the vast Nevada desert!
And here we are - our favorite home away from home, the haunted and historic Mizpah Hotel.
Dinner is served - CHEERS!
WooHoo! Tony and Steph showed up to join in on the fun - CHEERS AGAIN!
Good morning from downtown Tonopah! Up at the crack of dawn after a very long night of drinking and ready to do some exploring!
As it would turn out, not everyone was present and accounted for and there was a hangover or two that needed to be nursed so we got a bit of a later start than was planned. But, as sure as anything, we off of pavement as soon was possible and off into the wilderness.
Making our way up an over an old Emigrant Pass.
Looking west across the Fish Lake Valley.
Our first stop of the day was over at a natural hot springs down in the valley and one that's been developed over the years.
Ray getting a feel for the water while contemplating taking a dip.
Looking out across the ponds beyond the pool.
If you look real carefully, you can just make out the mega size goldfish in the water.
Definitely a beautiful place to do a little soakin.
On the move again and working our way south across the valley.
Oh how we love the wide open spaces that Northern Nevada has to offer.
And here we are - out in The Boonies, just as Cindy had wanted to be for her birthday
To good times with good friends and a BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Cindy - CHEERS!
Rachel and Ray were nice enough to bring out some super yummy birthday cupcakes for the occasion. Here's a shot that Rachel took of them
After an awesome birthday lunch out in The Boonies, it was time to hit the trail again.
Winding our way through a canyon right out of an old western movie.
Pulling into our main destination of the day and with a bit of sun still hanging in the sky.
It isn't too often that you come across an old mining camp as large as this and still relatively intact.
Cool to see handwriting still on these old shelves.
A split in the rails.
Climbing the old stairs to see where they go.
Shot looking back.
Bunch of cabins like this could be found on the upper levels.
A few in our group decided to drive to the upper levels of the camp.
It's being able to be in places like this and see sunsets like this that make us love our Jeeps!
Me standing on top of an old headframe.
The old hoist house.
Another shot looking across the mining camp just as the sun dipped below the horizon.
With the sun down, temps began to dip quite a bit and it was time for us to head back to civilization. Fortunately, it would be under this beautiful glow.
On our way back, we made one more stop at another hot springs to see the gold fish. Unfortunately, it was a bit dark for that but we were able to take this cool shot
Back in town and having a tasty BBQ dinner - HAPPY BIRTHDAY once again to Cindy!
To an outstanding day, out in the boonies and with all our good friends - CHEERS!
Well, that was Cindy's Birthday Run out in the Boonies. I know it wasn't much but hopefully some of our friends can pop in a few of the pics they took to help fill in the gaps. And, speaking of our friends, we'd like to thank all of you for joining us on this amazing trip and for helping to make it all the fun it really was.
