California Trails

I am planning a road trip next July as a retirement gift to myself. My current set up is a 11 JKUS with a 2.5 in Pro-Comp BB with 32's Baja ATZ's. I have all the associated recovery gear needed. So here are my questions, Do I need lockers to run the Rubicon or other California trails? What are some trails which have a moderate degree of difficulty to run? Due to my limited wheeling abilities and areas to wheel in Flat Florida. I have seen a lot of threads for the Rubicon and even Millers and these are high on my list to do. I know there are more so I am open for suggestions. I have also watched every one of Eddie and Cindy's videos and would love to wheel in some of those areas. It has been alomst 20 years since I last lived in California so I am looking forward to input.

Edit: As it was brought to my attention I did not give a time frame for days. So here it is, My plan is to spend about 5 days in San Diego then 5 days in the Central Valley area followed by 10 days in Vancouver, WA.

Thanks,
Will

Hey Will, what part of the state are you visiting and for how long? That will have a lot to do with which trails should be suggested. :yup:

If your going to be in San Diego corral canyon or anza borrego desert are the two places I would hit. If your planning to run the rubicon that will take your other 5 days as its best to run it in 2-3 days (from what I've read). Then check over your rig after.

You might want 35's though.

Just make sure you dont go alone if at all possible. Trail ratings are really difficult to gauge. Some that I would consider challenging are a walk in the park to people with better driving skill and/or better built rigs. Some that I consider easy are pretty terrifying to people new to the game. Ive been on two roll over recoveries this year on a trail I rate moderate.

Lockers arent necesary for a lot of trails but they sure make things safer IMO.

Will, I am looking forward to wheeling with you. Make sure you come to Bakersfield area so we can do some trails. I'm running mostly stock with a lift and 33 inch tires and we can do 99% of the trails near Bakersfield so no worries on that.

I'm running basically the same setup as you and I have no real trouble doing trails out in my neck of the woods. And we can smoke some premium cigars and have some fine brews. Good times!

When your up around my area I would love to hit some trails with you. There are a ton of good trails in the mountains right above where I live

We will be running the Rubicon again next year the Monday-Thursday after the 4th of July. You are welcome to join us! This year we had 6 JK's and had a great time.
