Being that AZVAJKU and TracieHue are in town for a couple of days, we decided it might be fun to head up into the hills and do a short hike to one of our favorite destinations, the Sierra Buttes. Although you do need to hit some dirt and 4WD can be helpful to get there, this wasn't really a wheeling trip per se and so, we don't have a whole lot of pics of that kind of stuff but I hope you'll enjoy seeing some of the fun we had just the same.
Soon after breakfast, we loaded up our Jeeps and headed into the state to the left.
You really couldn't have asked for a nicer and more beautiful day to be out for a drive in the Sierra's.
Making a stop to get a good look at our destination of the day from down below.
Way way way up there, you can see the tower we're heading to.
Time to hop off the pavement.
Another shot of the Buttes but from the other side.
Getting close to the top.
The final leg of the trip has to be done on foot and it's all up.
Even though it's the middle of August, there were still quite a few wildflowers in bloom up here.
It's hard not to stop every 10 feet and take in the breathtaking views.
Getting closer.
And here we are at 8587 feet above sea level and at the base of the steps leading up to the fire lookout tower.
Time to head on up.
And here we are!
Up on top, there's a rock with signatures of the people who helped make this place possible and a host of subsequent names as well.
A look inside the tower shows the simple living and observation area you would have to live in.
The views from up here are to die for.
Shot of our Jeeps all the way back down in the parking area.
Here they are zoomed in.
If you look real carefully, you can see a helicopter flying across the mountains and below the point that we're standing.
