Build of BlackTurd

Well I figured with some overly sized axles on the way it was finally time to start a build thread and tell the story of "the blackturd" as I often refer to it as. It is a 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited X. My Mom bought it for my Dad for valentine's day in 2008 with 33 miles on it. In 2012 when I turned 16 they let me pay off the remaining dues ($7500) and let me have it. $7500 for a 2008 JKU with 4 5k miles on it? Not bad to say the least. First things first. Had to get some tires and wheels. Tires: 265/70R17 Cooper Discover STT (31) on some 17x9 Dick Cepek DC2s.View attachment 161185
After 2 years with that setup I finally realized you can buy some pretty cool things for these bads boys so next up on the list. 2" Leveling Kit, Smittybilt XRC MOD front bumper, Smittybilt XRC rear bumper, a free set of DC2s Dick Cepek sent me (gloss finish was coming off), and 295/70R17 Toyo Open Country MTs (also 2 pods on the bumper and a 20" light bar on the hood) 2014-Feb of 2015

After doing this I was fighting the urge not lift it and put some big tires on it. But I couldn't resist and did it anyways lol Next Transformation list: 3.5" Rough Country Stage II lift kit, Smittybilt XRC Flat Fenders, and 37x13.50R17 Cooper Discover STTs. Also since then (Valentines Day of 2015) I have also added a couple more things. CB Radio, 1310 Rough Country Driveshaft (Front), Front and Rear Adjustable Track Bars(Rubicon Express), Crown Extended Break Lines, Rough Country Sway Bar disconnects, K&N Cold Air Intake, Rubi Rock Sliders and miscellaneous things (Floors Matts, Bikini Top, Spider WedShade, etc) and this is how she sits today. Damn you even have your own build thread now harrison? Can't wait to see the super dutys on the turd!

Looks like me, you and Scott all have the same idea for axles lol. Subd for sure. Oh and I think I've already found my axles 👍

Sounds good man I'm hoping to be done with suspension by the end of summer run

I know its probably early, but I was looking around online and found this. This is what I'll be using as a guide line for my axle swap, thought you might could use it too.

Just an fyi since you have a 2012 JK, it is a lot harder to do a junk yard swap because of the ECU Jeep started using. That along with the speed sensors and what not make it almost impossible to use anything other than after market.

True, but the 05 and up Ford axles have speed sensor hook ups, which makes it possible to swap it. Just takes a little more work lol

Well I just learned something new today.

Haha. From what I understand, I need an adapter for the Jeep sensor to work on the axle. I've also read that I can get a programmer and just run one speed sensor off one axle instead of both, but I'll have to do a little more digging to find out for sure
