Article: Giving Some Love to Factory Skidplates!!

my fuel tank skid has taken more abuse than I thought was possible, but ugly as it may be. It is holding on just well.
 
I have a question about this. I got my lift installed and when they did they took off my front cross member with skid plate as they said at flex it would hit the plate. So did you replace that skid plate or are they nuts?

are you referring to the cross member under your front bumper? if so, there was no skid there. or, did you mean to say the transmisson skid plate? if so, a lot of shops do that as the front drive shaft will come into contact with it. an aftermarket shaft is the correct solution to this problem as you will still end up hitting your transmission sump pan.

Wow mine has some dints in the front part ( pushed hard up agaist the tank )but not as bad as yours all the way along.
I've been concerned it will crack the plastic gas tank but i guess not hey.

I also have a long ranger diesel tank ( australian made steel tank with 2mm bottom plate ) to increase my range for remote touring in the aussie outback, total diesel capacity 153 litres. it has also copped damage at the front part but is holding up well so far. it fits on the opposite side of the jk between the exhaust and tail shaft.

Do any of your guys have modified tanks to increase ground clearance.
