Anyone see or use this tire carrier before?

Any ideas or concerns about safety? I understand wanting to save money but are these DIY tire carriers tested at all? I would have grave concerns regarding a lose tire coming forward during a front end impact.

And what about safety to the rear occupants? Does the spare sit very close to them?

Am I missing something?

I think with the Rockhard bar and lug bolt type mount welded to it I would feel good about the safety of it. My temporary deal not so much. It is very secure the way it is believe me I tried to rip it out of there every way possible(looked like a gorilla got turned loose inside the jeep) but I would much rather have steel holding it in. The one I made is bolted to the cage with RH4XR clamps and then strapped tightly down. It's not going anywhere.

What is bad with a high lift? I do not have one my self or any kind of lift exept the stock one. What should I consider if I want something better than the stock?

Is there any need of something else beside the stock one? I only have 33" tire and 2" of lift so the jeep is not very high.
 
They are very dangerous if not used properly and often it is very difficult to find a good spot to get them against the vehicle. They have their uses but changing tires is not one of them. Just get a good bottle jack.

Your stock jack with a few pieces of 2x6 wood is perfect for a tire change. For as long as I have had hi lift jacks I have never used one to change a tire. Used them plenty of times to pick a wheel up out of a hole enough to place some traction under it with the wheel lift attachment, used the clamping feature on my extreme and the spreader as well, used it as a hand winch. Its the jack that is more useful if your not using it as a jack.
 
I've used my hilift around the house more than the trail. For spreading shit apart and breaking stuff during projects.
