Advise on a new summer top.

Hey to all my WAL friends, just wanted some advise and or opinions on summer tops. I have a hard top on my 08 2dr JK and don't want to purchase a full soft top. I'm thinking full length safari bikini with a tonno cover. I've also seen some tops that use the roll cage as their structure. Do you have any opinions one way or another on design, functionality, ease of use, etc. Pictures would help greatly if you have them. °llllll°

I have a spiderweb shade and really like it. It blocks enough of the sun that it isn't bright but it's a mesh type top so it lets the wind through. It just uses some bungees to affix it to the roll bars and the foot mans loops on the windshield.

You can leave it on and put your hardtop back on. The only thing I didn't like about that is that I pull my top off a lot or at least the fronts so it got to where it was sagging in the middle of the windshield. It doesn't take long to put the shade on so I just take it off when I put the hard top back on. That has seemed to keep it tight now. It was probably just me and not the top at all.

Hey, Jeep looks sharp, nice pic! I like that idea, kind of the best of both worlds. I especially like how easy it is to install.

Second this. Loved mine, but I switched to a Trektop. Since it doesn't go all the way down I took the spiderweb shade off. It's nice too because if you get a color you like it's kinda like having a headliner with the top up. Make sure it's a warm day when you put it on & keep your top off for a day or two. It has a weird plastic smell when it's new.

I vote for the spiderweb shade!!!:) it will even keep out light rain from my experience with it!!:)

I run the spiderweb shade also, but throw a safari bikini top with header bar over it at times because it's not uncommon to get afternoon thunderstorms in the summer in my neck of the woods. With just the spiderweb shade, you are definatly getting soaked if it does start to pour. With that said, if thunderstorms are not in the forecast I'm running just the shade.

Spiderwebshade here too. I used to pull it before re-installing the hardtop, but didn't this time. Like mudmobeeler my only complaint is the sagging due to having to remove the front bungees for the hardtop. It is easy enough to install and remove with the top as he said.

I have the same thing. I actually have smittybilt, sad to say. But it does the job still surprisingly ha

I have a Trektop and with windows off can be used as a bikini. Flip it back you can use a spider shade over the cockpit. Overlander is thinking about selling his.

Clover patch has a window storage product for the Trektop too.

I just put a trektop on a few months ago so I'm looking forward to trying it out this summer myself

You'll love it! This will be the route I go when I get a soft top. Just can't decide if I wanna do it this summer or wait until fall!

Love my SpiderwebShade! They say you can leave it on all the time, but sometimes I run without the top or shade and it is super easy to take off and put back on.

I went with the Bartact shade top myself. I looked at Spiderwebshade and others and did not like the gap they left between the shade and the roll bar. I am crazy OCD and most of them look like an afterthought to me. The Bartact shade top covers the entire area between the roll bar, uses very secure sewn in Velcro straps to secure and adjust, and is made in the USA by veterans. I've used it for 2 years now and still looks like the day I bought it. No flapping around whatsoever.

You can kinda see it in the pic here. I can get some better pics of it later today if your interested. I'll be using the same brand shade top on my next build.

I've looked into Trek Top too, I like that it can be buttoned up like a soft top. That comes in very handy here in NC where we can experience three seasons in one weekend,LOL! I I'm going to look into the Bartact shade too, looks like it's really well made. I'm leaning towards the Trek Top in conjunction with the spider shade. Thanks for all the help guys!

Good choice. Just keep in mind, the TrekTop NX cannot be raised and lowered and kept with you like a regular soft top. It doesn't have a bow system, it sticks to the roll bar. All three Windows can be removed and stored with you, and that leaves you just the bikini top. It's a great top and it will be my soft top of choice for my 2016 when I go to a soft top, just like it has been for the last two JKs I've had!

I didn't know that about Bartact being made by veterans. I need to check that out. Always support my boys

Absolutely, I second that! Lots of my family members are Vets. There's still something to be said for American Made! I build highway bridges for a living. I take great pride in building something millions of Americans depend on each day.
