2029 Wrangler news

First article I've seen. Short of many meaty details yet, but unsurprisingly it's full of news I was afraid of, and the worst: Independent front suspension. But as much as I hate to say it, IFS may save the Wrangler.
Engine choices seem meh. I-6's are great torque motors and would be a nice motor to have but LESS the stupid turbos. Seriously, 300 hp is fine as the entry level engine and you can easily do that normally aspirated. Keep the hybrids for the people that think that makes a damn bit of difference and offer the 392 as an option and call it good. Be interesting to see more details as they start to come out.

Yeah mostly speculation in that article. IFS is the automotive writers dream setup but Stelantis would be foolish to listen to them. Just rented a hybrid Wrangler again and actually liked it. If they get rid of the plug in hybrid I’d consider one. Has better acceleration than my JT and got better mileage as well, but it was a Sahara model so had street tires so that might have been a factor. Though hybrid does add even more complexity to the equation so there’s that.

I know it's just an AI rendering of what it may possibly look like but... it wouldn't surprise me in the least if square headlights were coming as well LOL

That said, I have a feeling the article is pretty spot on.

As much as I hate to say it, I totally agree.

Nothing Stellantis has been doing over the last 10 years has been focused on their base. Everything they've been doing has been focused on foolish woke nonsense and other than ditching the all electric option (would never sell anyway), I don't see that changing any time soon.

They are trying to do whatever they can to save the brand after they ruined it and bronco took over.
They really are playing catching up to Bronco rather than trying to lead the way again.

It pains me to say it but 'd rather have a slightly watered down version vs none at all, and thats the direction it was headed.

I could live with square/rectangular/shaped headlights but please please please make the grill too hard to replace with the goddam angry eyes versions...

I think IFS is something you can count on. Face it, the solid axle setup probably matters to less than 1% of the folks that own these. On road handling matters more than ever, especially now that you've got the Bronco alternative that handles pretty well & doesn't ride kinda like a dump truck.

If they’re truly trying to save the brand and the Wrangler is going to be the deciding car, they had better homogenize it to the rest of the industry. Interior features will need to be kush with over the top electronics and bells/whistles. Then it has a chance, but of course then we’ve lost the wrangler. It would be awesome if they maintained a solid axle version you could order.

I would be very willing to give up the fold-down windshield feature on the Wrangler if it could help avoid wind noise from the top front of the doors. The noise is surely my biggest gripe about my Wrangler.

Perhaps an option without a removable top would be okay.

The solid axels seem fundamental to an offroad Jeep and a really strong "truck".

Not gonna lie, I've got nothing against IFS. In fact, I was really surprised that it didn't come on the JL Wrangler. As mentioned, for 99% of people who will buy a Wrangler, it's the better way to go and really, there's a LOT you can do with IFS these days. And, for the 1% that want more, you can always do a solid axle swap, just like people do now with Bronco and FJ and other Yotas.

They've already done a lot of that with the later JKs and even more so with the JL. What they haven't done yet is IFS. Would be nice if they offered a solid axle version as well. It'd be kinda like how they offered a 2WD and a 4WD option for the JK when it first came out.

I’ll keep my JKU and JLU. Screw IFS and all their new plans (never even opened that article). No thank you.

What is the difference between the proposed J70 wrangler and the bronco or a hummer? Seems like it’s not a wrangler anymore.

Would be sweet if some cool rich person would buy the Wrangler from Stellantis since it seems like they are trying to basically eliminate it.

I know we’ve talked about this before, what if they offered a ‘base model’, solid axles, lockers, stretched 2 door, etc.

Seems like stellantis is turning their back on this type of vehicle.

I would say less than that even because the majority of jeep owners who use them off road only do fire road type things and an IFS is way better for that.
