Caught the Bug
Hi all,

Hoping somebody might be able to help me out on this one. I was recently wheeling in some very muddy terrain with a lot of deep mud holes.

Prior to this, I had never seen my temp gauge go above half. Ever since, it continues to creep up if I hold 3,000 rpms.

I've hosed down the front of the radiator 3 times and did my best to spray the back of it twice. I also bit the bullet and paid jeep $25 for a jug of OAT to bring the reservoir up to the max line.

It's still running hot. Is there anything else I should do to troubleshoot the problem? The Fan is functioning properly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

yeah mud tends to do this- make sure you hose off the mud that's collected between the stock transmission cooler and the radiator, the backside of the radiator and all the mud that tends to collect on the lower portion of the fan shroud

you need to hose off the backside of the radiator better

Thanks jeeep. I was thinking about sucking it up and just laying under the jeep and spraying the back of the radiator from there. Guess that confirms that I should.

I had a similar issue. My fan motor was not running like it should. It was spinning but not high speed. I washed the back of the motor out to flush out any mud/silt and it worked. Haven't had an issue since.
 
IMG_1476548676.792055.jpg I had a similar overheating issue after plowing thru this mud hole...thought I had cleaned the radiator out pretty well, but was still overheating. Eventually I snaked my arm around and put the hose right up against the back of the radiator. Took about an hour until the all brown geysers spewing from the front ran clear. No issues after that.

Yea just keep a easy steady stream of water running across it for a long time with the motor running. You don't want to spray to hard cause you don't want to damage the fins of the ac condenser or the radiator

Well said. This is extremely important advice. Take the front grille off and just put some time into it.... You're going to be there a while.
