2.5 Loud Motor

I have a 2000 TJ with 2.5 with 146k on the clock

Is it just me or is it just a loud motor, seems like it ticks and clunks. Never have had any issues with the motor, just has always been a loud motor. Ive owned this TJ since 2005 when it had 20K and the motor seems just as loud as when I bought it...

Is there any way to quiet it down, or is there anything I need to look for that usually rattles or comes loose?:beer:

Check for an exhaust manifold leak after that just keep proper maintenance with good quality oil.. 2.5s are known to tick somewhat.

ill have to go take a look at that! Soapy water and pray for bubbles. I'm assuming they are known for the manifold cracking/or leaking. I always run Mobil1.

Well it has quite a bit of rust, so replacing it might just be worth it. When you replaced yours, how tough were the bolts/studs? Seems like a pretty straight forward job.

Fairly easy which surprised me. Just make sure to use a ton of penetrating lubricant.

Looking at rockauto some come with a gasket, some don't. Did you use a gasket?

Jeeps ain't meant to be quiet lol.

If it means that much to you, pull the carpet up, apply sound deadening material, and replace carpet. We did that on a ZJ back in my highschool days and it made a massive difference.

Looking at rockauto some come with a gasket, some don't. Did you use a gasket?

Bought mine from Napa and it came with a gasket. I would definitely replace the gasket while you are there.

^^the gasket creates a seal, you need it, go ahead and replace it.
