1941 Willy’s Slat Grill

Have I ever worked on a points distributor ? No, I always upgrade to electronic. But that’s not happening on this 41 MB.

It’s been having some issues accelerating and even almost stalling at stop lights. So I figured I’d see what i could clean up.

I cleaned up the mechanical advance, adding some white lithium grease. Cleaned and set the gapped the points.

I’m amazed at how much it woke this little motor up. It idles smooth and is fairly peppy for what it is. IMG_2968.jpegIMG_2969.jpegIMG_2971.jpegIMG_2972.jpeg

so this old 41 has a bad case of the wobbles at any speed. So I decided to swap out the factory bead locks to see if it’s a tire rim issue. I have a brand new set of steels from my other project.

What a big difference in handling and ride quality, I also got in some more new old stock parts for the transmission.

The NOS 2nd gear didn’t like new synchros , so we’ll see how this fits.

Today the 41 kicked my ass. I started feeling a driveline wobble pretty good.

It turns out the U joints are toast, so I started pulling them out to swap, more like I had to cut the fuckers out and drive the caps out, and sand and sand the surface

I did find it’s a Ford Script driveshaft, the “F” is right above the part number. The ujoints are 1310’s.

Well that wasn’t the wobble issue I was experiencing with the driveshaft but it did need fixed, The one rear hub was a little loose. It’s all tightened up.

I replaced the inter windshield seal, you can see what was left after 80 years and what it should have been.

The rubber basically turned to stone and was a real pain on removal until I busted out the butane torch.

It really helped out with all the rattling this ol girl has.
