04 TJ - Transmission issue

Short version - My transmission died on me while I was on a trail(fluid on the ground and wouldn't shift), got it back home, and to a shop I trust. I ordered a new transmission and had it installed. It will only move into drive and reverse, but won't actually shift into gear. When the shop connects its computer, none of the shifting gears are communicating with it. Does anyone have any experience with this? Does my ECU need to be replaced? Did I get a bad transmission?

No experience here, just looking for helpful options on what to do if anyone has had a similar experience.

Shouldn’t the shop be figuring this out? You paid them after all.

if they hook it up to their computer and still does not shift, bad transmission and they should be dealing with the supplier and resolving the issue, not you.

I would've thought they tested it before installing it.
