ANOTHER WINDSHIELD Bites the Dust - What Number are You On?

I just got off the phone with USAA. Since the damage to my windshield is smaller than a dollar bill they are going to repair it for free! Thank god, I wasn’t looking forward to another $250 bill for another windshield!

Random (non-Jeep) Shit You’re Working On....

Most of my skills were learned during JROTC survival camps I went to every winter in 29 Palms. I used to keep them up, but slacked the past several years, so it’s time to revive it. The Fritos tip sounds familiar, but thanks for the info! I’ll have to keep that in mind.

Another good fuel source is to take equal parts of melted paraffin wax and lighter fluid and soak cotton balls/rounds in it. Once they dry they are water proof until pulled apart. They burn for a good bit and are easily lit. I used to keep some of those and some char cloth with whatever starting...

I just want to have other options if I don’t have any normal fire starting tools. Now when I’m just getting a little bonfire going, yea lighter is what I use hands down.

A really fun one to win bets with is the fire roll. Unroll a cotton ball on a board, sprinkle some ash on it and and the board, til it back up, and use another board to roll it back and forth fast. After a few seconds you should have an ember if done right.

So a fire piston works just like a piston in a diesel. It uses the compression of the air to cause heat and light an ember. It has a small divot in the end to hold char cloth and when slammed down into the tube it lights an ember.

Random (non-Jeep) Shit You’re Working On....

I’m reviving some basic survival/camping skills I haven’t worked on in over a decade. Just got a fire piston made out of PVC and a wooden dowel, just need to find an o-ring for the dowel. The last one I made out of copper pipe, but I had some PVC laying around so I figured I would give it a go...

What was done to your rig this week?

Finally gave it a much needed bath! Used microfiber towels instead of a sponge and am very pleased with the results! No more annoying mud spots/stains. Downside, the 17 y/o paint is showing it’s age. Oh well, still looks good!

    The build of Balder

What a double punch to the balls! I just found out that I need to swap the battery in the wife’s liberty and she just got told she is going back into the office now instead of working from home. 🤦‍♂️ The gas is already painful with these prices. That means mods/maintenance will be even slower...
