Haven’t re-geared. Still have the 3.73 in there. Is there a way to verify this? Or do I have to pull the diff cover and inspect it? Would there be broken gears? What causes the noise if it comes from there?

It audibly drops off because the RPMs drop off. Some people mentioned a throw out bearing, but that was replaced when the clutch was replaced, and it existed both before and after the clutch job. I’ve had throw out issues before. This sound is not that.

New front driveshaft is in. So far all quiet and the ride is a lot better.

Turns out the front driveshaft and CV are shot. Mechanic is going to also check the transfer case while they are doing the work.
